NATO Chief: Weapons of Mass Destruction threat is real and growing

28-03-2010 14:37 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Other Press | World

NATO Secretary General Rasmussen speaking at the Brussels Forum, 27 March 2010
“The threat of Iraq’s Weapons of Mass Destruction” was the key argument of the relentless Anglo-American propaganda campaign in the run up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Seven years later, the head of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) points the finger at the next target by declaring that the threat of proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction “has remained largely abstract” until now, but it is “real and growing”.

Media Disinformation regarding America’s Afghan War

28-03-2010 10:24 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Terror War | World

"For its part, the occupation forces’ ISAF Joint Command issued an “operational update” mentioning that on the night of March 24/25th its forces had searched a compound outside Zerah Ghar, Tere Zayi district of Khost Province and captured “two Taliban sub-commanders” as well as “several other insurgents,” lots of ammunition and money.[18] The official communiqué concluded with the usual, “no shots were fired, and no Afghan civilians were harmed during these operations.” But a day later, when the two civilian deaths in Chergotah could no longer be concealed, NATO published the usual promise of an investigation and the “our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this terrible accident and their families.”

Many thousands of us came out to demonstrate against Israeli war crimes committed against the people of Gaza in January 2009.

Following these protests in front of the Israeli Embassy in London, 119 young people were arrested. They were predominantly Muslim and aged between 16-19 years, the youngest was 12. So far 78 people have been charged with offences, the vast majority of these are public order offences which hold a maximum of 5 years imprisonment.

The next hearing is scheduled for the 26th March, at 9.30 at Isleworth Crown Court. It is important that as many people as possible come out to show that they support the young people and recognise the unfairness of these convictions and will not stand for it.

Depleted Uranium: A War Crime Within a War Crime

23-03-2010 08:32 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Repression | World

Since 1991, the U.S. has released the radioactive atomicity equivalent of at least 400,000 Nagasaki bombs into the global atmosphere.

The U.S. has illegally conducted four nuclear wars in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and twice in Iraq since 1991, calling DU "conventional" weapons when in fact they are nuclear weapons.

DU is the Trojan Horse of nuclear war – it keeps giving and keeps killing. There is no way to clean it up, and no way to turn it off because it continues to decay into other radioactive isotopes in over 20 steps.

Seventh Anniversary: The Objective of the War on Iraq was to Destroy the State

22-03-2010 11:15 | Anti-militarism | Culture | Iraq | World

The purpose of the war waged on Iraq was from the onset the destruction of the Iraqi state. But there is more: cultural cleansing, tolerating the looting of museums, the burning of libraries and the murder of academics was part of the war strategy.

State ending will certainly become established as a concept, alongside genocide and its derivatives, such as urbicide (destruction of cities), sociocide (destruction of social fabric) mnemocide (destruction of collective memory).

The US-NATO Conquest of Africa: Militarization of the African Continent

21-03-2010 22:29 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

USAFRICOM area of responsibility
In 1884 the major European powers gathered at the Berlin Conference to divide up those parts of Africa that had escaped colonization and to create a consortium to dominate and exploit an entire continent and its peoples.

The anti-colonial struggles after the Second World War put an end to that enforced order, but 126 years later there are ominous indications that the former colonial masters are nostalgic for their past power.

Israeli army chief visits Turkey to hold talks on Iran’s nuclear program

19-03-2010 14:24 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Other Press | World

Gabi Ashkenazi and Ilker Basbug had a meeting in Ankara on March 15th, 2010
Already during the Clinton Administration of 1993-2001, a triangular military alliance between the US, Israel and Turkey had unfolded. This ‘triple alliance’ is coupled with a strong bilateral military relationship between Tel Aviv and Ankara.

Amply documented, Israel and Turkey are partners in the planned US aerial attacks on Iran, which have been in an advanced state of readiness since mid-2005.

Iran’s natural gas riches: US knife to the heart of world future energy

18-03-2010 23:35 | Anti-militarism | Energy Crisis | Globalisation | World

A major realignment in the world’s energy economy – one where there will be a continuing diminished role for the US – Washington’s blustering rhetoric about democracy and peace and war on terror or alleged Iranian nuclear weapons can be seen as a desperate attempt to conceal its fear that it stands to be a big loser.

Encircling Iran with wars and threatening gas supplies to possibly the world’s top future gas customer – China – is the real deal. US actions are more accurately seen as putting a knife to the energy arteries of a world economy that it will no longer be able to dominate.

Néjàd vu, all over again: The media, 'pretext', context & 9/11

authors of the report written in 2000 by the Project of the New American Century
The mainstream media's favorite scapegoat, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, resurfaced on Saturday amidst reports that he called the attacks of September 11, 2001 "a big lie."

According to the immediate and rabid response of virtually every Western news network around, this was simply the latest insane claim of the same raving madman who has previously threatened to wipe a foreign state off the map and denied the Holocaust.

NATO'S Fire Sale - One Dead Afghan Child, $2,000

17-03-2010 13:15 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Terror War | Sheffield | World

On January 11, 2010, we sent out a media alert titled, ‘Were Afghan children executed by US-led forces? And why aren't the media interested?’  http://www.medialens.org/alerts/10/100111_were_afghan_children.php

The alert concerned credible reports that American-led troops had dragged Afghan children from their beds and shot them during a night raid in Kunar province in eastern Afghanistan on December 27 last year. Ten people were killed, including eight schoolboys from one family. We noted that the alleged atrocity had been almost wholly ignored by the corporate media, including the BBC.

Rachel Corrie - killed March 16, 2003 in Rafah, Gaza

Add this development to what Mel Frykberg at Inter Press Service calls Israel’s growing “public relations nightmare”: renewed attention to the near-fatal shooting of American activist Tristan Anderson. Just as the media spotlight is glaring down on Israel because of a civil trial in the killing of American peace activist Rachel Corrie comes a decision by Israel’s Justice Ministry to reinvestigate the shooting of Anderson.

US-NATO "strategic concept": Global warfare

15-03-2010 19:17 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Globalisation | World

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen
On March 12, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen arrived in Warsaw to participate in the NATO’s New Strategic Concept – Global, Transatlantic and Regional Challenges and Tasks Ahead conference.

His address reiterated the now standard demand that NATO combine Article 5 so-called collective defense for its members – in Poland’s case that can only be a reference to Russia – with expeditionary deployments outside NATO’s self-defined area of responsibility as exemplified by recent wars and other armed missions in the Balkans, Afghanistan, the Gulf of Aden and the Horn of Africa, the Mediterranean Sea and the Darfur region of Sudan.

VIDEO: Indigenous activist 'Splitting the Sky' versus war criminal Bush

former US congresswoman Cynthia McKinney
The Splitting the Sky story highlights the media cover up of the lies and crimes of 9/11. But that is only the beginning. STS's story starts with the big cover up of the reality that the New World Order of America began in 1492 with a massive genocide that continues to this day.

The founding of America on the theft of natural resources from Indigenous peoples around the world extends these days to the creation of new forms of appropriation, domination, murder and enslavement.
