Coach Oxford to London - 29 Jan - Anti-cuts, Save EMA
There's a national protest against fees and funding / EMA cuts in London this Saturday - it was mentioned at the OEC meeting that Oxford Right To Work have organised a coach but will have to cancel it unless more people use it. People seemed very up for getting some good action done. Should be good in its own right, and it should give us food for thought re. tactics for March.

Saving Temple Cowley Pools – the campaign continues into 2011
The campaign to keep publicly funded leisure inside the ring road in East Oxford is starting its second year; we need support from anyone who cares about the health and wellbeing of the citizens of Oxford and how the City Council is ignoring the will of its citizens for its own ends. Over the last year, the Labour-controlled city council in Oxford has been pushing through plans to close two leisure centres and replace them with an extension onto Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre.

Oxford climate activists sentenced - Ratcliffe
Today 18 of the 20 activists, several of them from in or around Oxford, found guilty of conspiring to commit aggregated trespass in order to shut down Ratcliffe on Soar power station were sentenced.

It's been a busy year for activists and grassroots campaigners in Oxford. Peace campaigners have kept up the pressure on the war-mongers, including those at AWE Aldermaston and BAe systems. Campsfield Detention Centre has remained a target for people opposed to the inhumane treatment of migrants. And, of course, the anti-cuts movement has grown from strength to strength closing down shops, occupying buildings, and bringing angry people out on the streets.

At this evening's Oxford City Council meeting the eloquent and impassioned speeches made to Councilors by members of the Save Temple Cowley Pools campaigned received a tepid response from councillors, especially those of the ruling labour party, responsabile for plans to close the pool and fitness centre.
This new documentary is a celebration of a real local landmark. 100 years ago, the little picture palace on Jeune street opened for the very first time. In the 1970s - sporting fabulous Al Jolson hands on its classical facade - the Penultimate Picture Palace became famous for screening unusual, sometimes controversial films. Now revived and rejuvenated the cinema lives again as the Ultimate Picture Palace....
