Martin Shaw leaves hospital after one month

Anti-G8 activist Martin Shaw was released from Lausanne hospital this morning. He has spent a month recovering from near-fatal injuries sustained from an incident on the 1st of June in which the Swiss police cut the rope that he and his climbing partner were hanging from while attempting to stop delegates from attending the G8 summit in Evian.

Today I am leaving hospital after two operations and a month recovering from injuries that I sustained as a result of police actions in response to direct action that we took on the Aubonne bridge on the 1st of June. A noborder demo in Warsaw on June 30 ended with 16 arrests. A website with templates for appeals to authorities and more info is prepared. The demo ended a noborder conference and an International Anarchist Meeting preceding the Krynki bordercamp which starts on June 2nd. A Financial Call for people arrested and injured during the Evian G8 Protests was sent out. 3 other international independent journalists and 1 reporter of Radio Swiss Romande apart from english IMC-photographer Guy Smallman gravely wounded by a "concussion grenade" (see http://www.ssi-media.com/pigbrother/Report2003Part2.htm#8 ), were in the main intentionally wounded by the police on the 1st and 3rd June - in the majority with considerable risk of long-term damages.
Several clearly marked independent journalists only just escaped from another intentional "concussion grenade" - attack.

We need to follow up on the general and specific cases from the G8 to ensure that the police (Swiss, French, German...) do not get away with their actions, and that their actions are seen as connected to wider global repression, by the press as well as the public. In order to do this the different legal groups need funding to initiate legal procedures. WE are calling for international support......
