reminder - public meeting: freedom to protest! LSE, TOMORROW Sunday 2nd Dec
01-12-2007 20:13
Gordon Brown plans to extend the restrictions on demonstrations near parliament to cover the whole country, claiming that this will simplify the work of the police. The current law totally bans spontaneous protests, requiring advance police permission, which allows the police to impose arbitrary limits on numbers and effectively act as political censors. The consultation proposes extending these rules to any protest anywhere, in the name of 'harmonisation', and adding powers to control the content of banners, placards and leaflets. The freedom to protest was won through hard struggle and if we want to keep it we must take a stand to say enough is enough. Come to a public meeting to plan a response: we propose early January.NETCU_WATCH - Down!

SOCPA The Movie on big screen with Q&AStatue of racist imperialist Lloyd George to be unveiled Thurs 25th
24-10-2007 11:43
At 2pm on Thursday 25th October, a new statue of the former British Prime Minister Lloyd George will be unveiled in Parliament Square ( http://lloydgeorgesociety.org.uk). This would be an excellent opportunity for activists to educate the public about some of the grim realities of Britain’s imperial past, and to draw out some of the connections between that past and Britain’s current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.Going around Parliament Square.

Anyone who spends any time in Parliament Square will have noticed trailers towed by motorised vehicles going round and round the square for lengthy periods. Those trailers carry large adverts of a political or commercial nature and the police seem to ignore them.Video of plinth occupation in Parliament Square.
