Zimbabwe vigil 5th anniversary

The Zimbabwe vigil 5th anniversary event that was due to happen at the rampART social center this coming saturday has now been moved to a larger venue as it has become apparent that the numbers expected to attended much greater than originally anticipated.

The vigil is on the strand as normal and the social event afterwards will now be held at Highgate Newtown Community Centre, 25 Bertram Street, London N19 5DQ.

Brothers in Chains and other news from rampART

The building occupied for the rampART social center has recently undergone changes to make it more suitable for large meetings. Two rooms on the first floor have been combined into one large room good for meetings of up to sixty people. Additionally, work is being done on the roof garden to provide a sheltered space where people can get a breath of fresh air during events.

Confrontation with authorities in Parliament Square on 8th October 2007.

On the day that the British Parliament resumed after its Summer recess, a large group of anti-war protesters marched into the Square. They were joined by people who demand the basic freedom to be able to protest peacefully without prior police permission or conditions. The video shows some of the confrontations with authorities, while no doubt Members of Parliament looked on from the windows of their well protected building.

thanks to ken livingstone's apparently illegal fencing round the grass at parliament square, (all my enquiries to the mayor's office are met with obfuscation and silence), some of brian's supporters have taken the opportunity to find a place to hang all the banners they keep being given

poppy protest outside ministry of defence this afternoon - lax security

earlier today, there was a peaceful walk by activists calling for the withdrawal of troops from afghanistan (report here later). 12 police followed and filmed the 22 peaceful protestors for nearly five hours. later outside the MOD, opposite downing street, four urban gargeners dug the earth and planted poppy seeds. they remained unnoticed in the 'government security zone'.

mainstream media widely reported the lifting of bans on protest.

ken livingstone's greater london authority staff re-erected the fences round the grass of parliament square in the very early hours of this morning. the legality of the fences has still not been challenged in court and it seems the GLA would like to keep it that way
