activists got to work earlier today on the two-metre fencing all around parliament square. the grass is now liberated, open to the public, and to the burmese protestors. police so far have not intervened in the operation which was carried out by around a dozen activists.

Authorities Ban Anti-War March

On Monday 8 October the Stop the War Coalition will be marching fromTrafalgar Square to Parliament calling for all troops to be brought home immediately. The police have now said that all demonstrations are bannedwithin a mile of Parliament whilst in session. This is a new development and threatens our democratic rights.

while 'red' ken and his gla can offer no explanation for the continued 2-metre high fencing around parliament square, and while burmese demonstrators are hassled by inspector price of the met for not asking permission to protest about the sudden crackdown by the burmese military, we are still waiting for gordon brown to honour his 'promise' of repealing the SOCPA law banning 'unauthorised' protest near parliament.

SOCPA Court report - Case dismissed

The SOCPA case against five activists who took part in the No More Fallujahs Weekend of action last October collapsed today at Horseferry Road Magistrates Court when judge Quentin Purdy found no case to answer and dismissed all charges against the five at the end of a protracted and at times farcical hearing which lasted almost four hours.

nelson mandela is visiting parliament square tomorrow. he may not be aware of the terrible civil rights violations that the 'serious organised crime and police act' has led to in this area. it is important that he is made aware - that this hypocrisy is unveiled.

Mandela's statue is due to be unveiled in Parliament Square by him on Wednesday 29th. But hang on, the whole area is presently fenced off, with the exception of a tiny, cramped area around Brian Haw's pitch.
