The GLA have put a whopping great metal fence right round Parliament Square and moved Brian Haw's enclave into an ever tinier patch. But this also gives the opportunity for a huge show of solidarity. Make Brian a peace banner and bring it with hooks to fix on the lovely new fence. If all of you brought something we could make a display even bigger than the one the Police (unlawfully) took away last year.

the greater london authority and uniformed police mounted another expensive and unilateral raid on peace protestors in parliament square yesterday morning. they were there to enforce bye-laws but there are serious questions about the legality of the raid both in terms of jurisdiction and also in arbitrariness of conditions.

aqil shaer, a long-standing supporter of brian was viciously assaulted and arrested by the known thuggish parliamentary policeman nicknamed 'fatgut'. another unknown man was arrested by police after assaulting brian's supporter 'barbara tucker'.

when brown seized power he promised a lifting of socpa conditions on the right to protest near parliament. today, in preparation for the visit of nelson mandela, his henchmen helped ken livingston's henchmen to crack down even more on brian haw's protest, forcing their support tents into an impossibly small area in another expensive police operation.

9/11 Truth: London Parliament Demo 11th August 2007

Here are some pics from our 11 August Demonstration outside Parliament in London. Due to the legislation from 2005 (SOCPA – Serious Organised Crime and Protection Act) all demonstrators had to apply for a lone demonstration license from the police. To remain within the law we therefore all had to demonstrate on different topics to all be lone demonstrators.

Video Police videoing sound system rider
As usual at the start of the ride the police were threatening riders with sound systems with arrest if they dare to play them within the SOCPA zone around Parliament. Something they do not do to motorists with sound systems. The photos show police hassling a rider with a sound system.

Another London Critical Mass police hassle.

Police routinely interfere with Critical Mass, holding up the front of the ride, targeting sound systems and sometimes ticketing riders. They also video and photograph riders at the start of every event. It is odd though that they never turn up for the December ride, which is close to the New year celebrations.

having successfully persuaded mark thomas to stop his mass lone demos on the basis that brown is going to repeal the act, the police continue to intimidate known peaceful demonstrators.

mainstream media has recently been consistently reporting that gordon brown has lifted the restrictions on demonstrating near parliament. this is a lie. socpa has not been repealed, and if anything the police appear to have been given orders to crack down harder than ever on the handful of peaceful campaigners who daily dare to point out that our government is still committing genocide in iraq

the prince charles cinema is proudly advertising the socpa movie which will be shown there on sunday at 1pm, followed by a q&a session with rikki the film-maker, milan rai from peace news, and mark barrett from the parliament square picnickers. there's also now a film trailer on youtube.

Parliament Square peace campaigner Brian Haw is now in the seventh year of his protest. He started on June 2nd 2001 and despite numerous attempts to evict him including specially enacted legislation – SOCPA – he is still here. A selection of photos is attached

SOCPA Raid Charges Dropped

On the 20th February 2007 dawn raids were executed at four addresses in Yorkshire involving over a hundred police officers from Humberside and West Yorkshire Police,. The aim being to arrest four people for what the media and police agencies dubbed animal rights extremism.

In recent months London Critical Mass sound systems have been banned from playing within the SOCPA zone but drivers are allowed to continue playing theirs.
