Confrontation with authorities in Parliament Square on 8th October 2007.

On the day that the British Parliament resumed after its Summer recess, a large group of anti-war protesters marched into the Square. They were joined by people who demand the basic freedom to be able to protest peacefully without prior police permission or conditions. The video shows some of the confrontations with authorities, while no doubt Members of Parliament looked on from the windows of their well protected building.

In the past demonstrators in London have been arrested, charged and fined or imprisoned simply for reading out a list of names or for carrying an innocuous banner, under the draconian SOCPA legislation brought in by Prime Minister Blair's government and carried on by his successor Brown. Since a raid on protesters' legitimate encampment in the Square by Mayor Livingstone's Greater London Authority (GLA) team on 17th August, a surrounding metal barrier has been erected which severely inhibits the ability to demonstrate there.

Great video. Shows the choas the police got into when people took the initiative and decided they didnt want to be penned in behind barriers.

The StWC website report of this demo fails to mention any of the sit-downs or the removal and entry into Parliament Sq. It links to a BBC report that's marginally more accurate but also does not report the sit downs and people breaking through police lines

Nice one Doug
