The Guardian article depicts a deeply misleading picture of the US in the Middle East and the wider world, as we have often explained in our books and in media alerts. We are to believe that the world’s number one rogue state is searching for benign solutions to the world’s most “intractable problems”. This fiction is standard in corporate media coverage.

Echoing the six-month-long intensive propaganda campaign before invading Iraq in 2003, the leading members of the NATO Alliance (US, UK, Germany, France) and Israel are desperately trying to show Iran as a threat, without presenting a shred of evidence.

Now, an anonymous “NATO official” is claiming that Iran is posing a threat not only to Israel, but also to Europe. Even more astonishingly, after 4 years of constant scare-mongering over “Iran’s nuclear threat”, this official is reverting to Clinton administration’s “Iran’s ballistic threat” propaganda.

This week the leaders of Israel, UK, Germany and US launched yet another joint propaganda campaign against Iran. The aim is to get the UN Security Council to impose “crippling sanctions” on Iran, a step that would ultimately facilitate their next brutal invasion.

Actually, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that it is possible for “the coalition of the willing” to impose these sanctions “even without a UN Security Council decision”.

Meanwhile, the 118 member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) (about two thirds of UN member states) have “reaffirmed the basic and inalienable right of all states to develop research, production and use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, without any discrimination and in conformity with their respective legal obligations”.

President Obama's ultimatum to Iran on a BBC interview ten days before Iran's presidential elections went largely unnoticed by the world media.

Yesterday, the Israeli ambassador to US announced that Obama's end-of-the-year deadline has now been brought forward to September.

As the US/UK/Israeli war lobby is paving the ground for yet another imperialist invasion, "anti-war" initiatives across Europe and North America show signs of total capitulation...

The American empire has not altered under Barack Obama. It kills as brutally and indiscriminately in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan as it did under George W. Bush. It steals from the U.S. treasury to enrich the corporate elite as rapaciously. It will not give us universal health care, abolish the Bush secrecy laws, end torture or “extraordinary rendition,” restore habeas corpus or halt the warrantless wiretapping and monitoring of citizens. It will not push through significant environmental reform, regulate Wall Street or end our relationship with private contractors that provide mercenary armies to fight our imperial wars and produce useless and costly weapons systems.

In the weeks following the atomic attacks on Japan 64 years ago, and then for decades afterward, the United States engaged in airtight suppression of all film shot in Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the bombings. This included footage shot by U.S. military crews and Japanese newsreel teams. In addition, for many years, all but a handful of newspaper photographs were seized or prohibited. Newly declassified documents reveal that an active member of Students for a Democratic Society and Port Militarization Resistance in Washington state was actually an informant for the US military. The man everyone knew as “John Jacob” was in fact John Towery, a member of the Force Protection Service at Fort Lewis. The military’s role in the spying raises questions about possibly illegal activity. The Posse Comitatus law bars the use of the armed forces for law enforcement inside the United States. The Fort Lewis military base denied our request for an interview. But in a statement to Democracy Now, the base’s Public Affairs office publicly acknowledged for the first time that Towery is a military operative. “This could be one of the key revelations of this era,” said Eileen Clancy, who has closely tracked government spying on activist organizations.
