On 19th March refugees in Würzburg started a new era of protest against the inhumane laws threatening their lives. After a refugee killed himself, refugees started to leave the Lagers they are forced to live in, in order to establish action tents in many cities and take the protest to the streets and into the public. The general demands are: - Abolish all refugeecamps in germany! - Abolish the deportation laws! – Deportation is inhumane and deadly and serves only the political and economical interests of those in power. - Abolish the 'Residenzpflicht'!

The protest grew quickly; there were protestcamps in 9 cities in 4 states in total. Since the 8th September protesters started on two routes from Würzburg to Berlin to bring the protest to the central point of political responsibility for these racist and criminal laws and fight together...

From a declaration of the striking refugees: "We mobilize all over Germany to break the isolation, against deportation and Lagers, for the closure of all Heims and for the liberation from the bondage of Residenzpflicht in Germany. (…) Now it is time to stand up, we don’t want to witness the death of one of us any longer, because the inhuman treating of asylum seekers in Germany could drive anyone of us to death. (…) We quit the fixed borders and the cages built for us, because we believe that the concept of a life within Heims for asylum seekers is unfair. We exceed these borders, because we believe that this freedom is the least right of every human. And we will resist the deportation law of the government, because these laws only serve the financial and political interests of the government. It’s the right of each and every human to choose where he/she lives. Shoulder to shoulder and stronger than ever we’re doing everything in our power to reach this dream and with the support of other asylum seekers we will witness the fullfillment of our rights.“

A blockade of Colnbrook and Harmondsworth detention centres on Wednesday (19 September) held up the UK Border Agency's planned deportation of Tamil refugees back to the killing fields of Sri Lanka. With one person D-locked under a deportation coach, the blockade held for 3 1/2 hours, long enough for the deporters to miss their flight slot and for 35 people to get off with legal injunctions.

Despite the repression suffered by Yarl's Wood detainees who've dared protest in the past, a group of women currently detained in the centre have come together to issue the following statement.

Arrests and Injuries at Calais "Justice for Noureddin" Demonstration

Migrants in Calais have been under increased attack as border security has been stepped up and the town has been "cleansed" for the arrival of tourists and athlete training camps. This letter was written by a friend of Osman Rasul Mohammed, an Iraqi Kurdish asylum seeker who plunged to his death from a seven storey towerblock in Nottingham two years ago. He had spent nearly ten years fighting for asylum after repeated refusals of his claim. Denied the right to work or access state benefits, he was living on the street off £20 a month and food parcels supplied by a charity.

The campaign and calls for justice, and an independent enquiry, after the death of popular refugee Noureddin Mohammed, originally from Darfur, which began outside the 'Hotel de Police' in Calais by local sans-papiers and other No Borders activists, continued yesterday after two actions in the German city of Düsseldorf during the No Borders camp in the nearby city of Köln. (This camp is also being supported by actions and a solidarity camp for a hunger-strike by refugees in the regional capital, Düsseldorf.)

Today over 20 people held a demo outside the French embassy in London to call for an immediate investigation into the death of Noureddin Mohamed.

G4S employees in charge of Jimmy Mubenga on the flight when he collapsed and died will not face any charges despite counsel finding that his treatment constitued a "breach of duty". Instead the case will go to a dead-end inquest, like the inquest into the Iraq War that is still being dragged out.
