Nottingham Migrant Solidarity is a group that aims to offer practical support to migrants on the France/UK border. Hundreds of people face destitution, brutality and harassment every day in Calais and most are fleeing violence and persecution in their home countries. We are a self-organised group who plan to give out free food to migrants in Calais between the 8th and 22nd July. In the months of July and August the charities who usually provide food are closed.This makes it imperative that groups such as ourselves distribute food during this period.

Hidden inside a quiet business park in Portishead, just outside Bristol, is a UK Border Agency office from where an immigration crime team work with police, including launching raids in the south-west. We visited Thursday night into Friday (with the death of anarchist Carlo Guiliani in combat with police during the G8 summit 12 years ago still fresh in our minds) to set fires that damaged the building and burnt 6 vehicles stationed there - 3 cars, 2 blacked-out people carrier vans (known to be used for dawn snatches of immigrant family groups) and 1 large van. The border regime mercenaries draw the attention of our total contempt the same as any other cop does, and now this long arm of the State has felt that we are close and we don't stop.

About 100 rejected asylum seekers from the refugee camp in Choucha are currently protesting in the Tunisian capital.

Today the bench chamber of the court in Haarlem ruled in the case of incitement by speech and word against Joke Kaviaar. The court rejected all of the defense pleas of her lawyer and sentenced Joke to four months in prison. This is less than the six months imprisonment the Public Prosecutor had asked for. Joke Kaviaar will appeal the conviction and announces that she will not let herself be silenced. She will continue to speak out against the Dutch migration policy.

"Well excuse me for living!" Dutch anarchist and No Borders activist Joke Kaviaar goes on trial in Haarlem tomorrow for "incitement" for her writings over seven years slamming the racist border system in the Netherlands and across Fortress Europe. After new year's eve prison demo's outside three of London's prisons, it was agreed by a few people that it would be good to show solidarity in the same way to refugees and migrants held in a 'detention centre' prison by Heathrow airport on New Year's Day.

Migrants can be held for many years for the "crime" of crossing a border, and for most of those there for the long-term, are there with no end to their detention in sight.

January 1st has also become the date that many are given as a date of birth when no records exist. January the 1st is therefore many migrant's official 'birthday', and a solidarity action was organised on this day with people from different networks meeting in the afternoon and heading to Harmondsworth Detention centre to make noise and express solidarity with those inside.

Activists from different networks in Cardiff, including No Borders South Wales, South Wales Anarchists, Gremlins, Travellers groups, Cardiff Migrant Solidarity and the new Network of Cardiff Squatters came together to continue the support shown for migrants in recent months.

Several activists decided to use International Migrants Day this week to respond to a call-out from French activists for actions outside French Embassies and Consulates in solidarity with a recent day of action that aimed to highlight the continued state repression against sans-papier, Roma, the homeless and anti-airport activists in France despite a change of government to a party that spoke out against such actions before they were in power.

Thessaloniki, Greece, urgent appeal for international support with delta squat and imprisoned anarchist immigrant Gustavo Quiroga

On Saturday 13th Oct a demonstration of 300 people took over the streets in Calais to denounce the relentless harassment and attacks against ‘exiles’ of Calais; refugees, migrants, people with and without papers.

Starting outside the clothes distribution area we took the roads through town, creating a resounding carnival of drums and shouting through the pouring rain, occupying a main roundabout in town before blaring noise outside the town hall using whatever means – drums, bins, horns, whistles, sirens and bellowing chants. Undocumented kids battled over the megaphone and a make-shift samba band got people bouncing on their feet. Banners in Arabic, Pastu, Farsi, Tigrinya, Polish, Latvian, English, French… decorated amongst the crowd and sprawled across walls and buildings as we passed. The demo ended outside Salam, the food distribution area, with more drumming, shouting and dancing in the street.
