Rostock demonstration for global freedom of movement and equal rights for all.

05-06-2007 22:12 | G8 Germany 2007 | Globalisation | Migration | Social Struggles | World

Police hold up the begining of the demo...
Arriving at the rally point the Police presence is unreal. Literally thousands of the fuckers. A group of communists are being kettled outside the entrance and the atmosphere is tense to say the least. The speeches are delayed because many of the speakers are held up outside while people are being searched. Then when the demo forms up hundreds of cops surround the start and block its passage. Behind them are water cannons. The crowd refused to provoked. Its the same deal as before. There are refugees present and noone is going to allow the Police to add deportations to their arrest quota.

After hours of negotiation the demo finally leaves with over 10,000 people on it. Outside the town centre it is stopped again because the streets are too narrow or something. Despite these pathetic excuses the crowd still refuse to react in a violent or confrontational manner.

10,000 is over ten times bigger than anything that Germany's Nazis have ever manged. They think that borders are a good idea...whose winning?

Rostock No Borders. Moronic cops attack demo at the sight of pogrom.

05-06-2007 21:25 | G8 Germany 2007 | Globalisation | Migration | Repression | World

Cops attempt to kick things off...
In 1992 Germany saw its first pogrom since the days of Hitler. A hostel in Lictenhagen used by refugees and immigrant workers was burnt to the ground by a gang of pissed up nazis as 3,000 local racists cheered them on. The 30 cops in attendance looked the other way and the event became an international scandal. It happened after a hysterical racist campaign by the conservative right and their tabloids (sound familiar?). Following the pogrom racist laws were passed and refugees rights were eroded.

Given the history of Lichtenhagen you would have thought that the cops might keep a low profile?

Yeah right...

Quick pics of today's march in rostock, which after being blocked by police for hours was dispanded by the organisers. As hundreds and hundreds of people and police flowed through the streets it really didn't seem like the demo had ended - then a sound system turned up to capture the crowd and lead them to the closing concert at the harbour...

Hunger strike at Yarl's Wood Prison - 8 May 2007

09-05-2007 16:48 | Migration | Repression | World

On Tuesday 8 May 2007, barely five days after a hunger strike by the women at Yarl's Wood gaol, in Bedfordshire, another hunger strike began at about 11.00am this morning. According to detainees held inside the prison, over 100 people including children are refusing food. The detainees are refusing to enter their rooms and are staying out in the gardens. The racist authorities are ignoring them as usual, hoping the protest dies down. the protest is against the conditions of the detention: 'we are not criminals, we have not killed anybody, yet we are being held here... this place is a prison really... the kids are scared of the police when they come in... no one can sleep, we are all stressed...' said one of the detainees.

Re: Your ‘British Values’ are Alien to Our Human Values

Sir, this is an open letter to you, and I’d prefer that you respond to me openly, and act upon it in the short time that you have left. I know it is long, but there is no short way of putting it. The Home Secretary and the Minister of State for Immigration both have my contacts, or you can reply on my email below. Mr Prime Minister, we are all puzzled

Detention of Asylum Seekers and Immigrants in the UK

28-04-2007 20:34 | Anti-racism | Migration | Repression | World

I am an asylum seeker who has experienced arbitrary detention in the UK for immigration purposes. I am also a national of a former British colony, where internment and detention were used to control the freedom movement of whole communities. I have strong criticisms of the use of internment and detention of a particular group of people as a form of control or punishment without any regard for justice.
