this afternoon police arrested another five protestors under draconian new legislation that bans any protest not agreed with police in advance. the ban applies to just one or more people in a large exclusion zone around parliament and government buildings. a prospective protestor is supposed to apply to police a week before the demo, and they have the right to ban the protest, or enforce all sorts of restrictions on it without any independent judge, effectively giving them political power over citizens in this area.

Mass Lobby of Parliament in support of the Right to
Demonstrate.
Assemble 12 noon, Sunday 7th August, Parliament Square.
If you are concerned about the introduction of the new law that has effectively banned all demonstrations in the area around Parliament (up to 1 km away as far as the London Eye, Charing Cross and Trafalgar Square) then please join the mass lobby outside parliament to call on our representatives to reconsider and over turn this undemocratic and draconian legislation.

Today UK Indymedia is proud to announce the launch of it's campaign to get the brave bobbies that tackled them awarded George Crosses!

Police and demonstrators both sent out a warning today of the likely outcome of next Sunday's mass demonstration. The Home Office, having been made to look an ass by Brian Haw, intended victim of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act, decided to make its position on the "designated area" surrounding Parliament absolutely clear.
