UG#528 - The Bilderberg Group (Conspiracies and The Fiction of Government Power)

11-12-2010 22:38 | Analysis | Other Press | Social Struggles | Sheffield | World

Audio
This week we took a look at the Bilderberg Group, a secret meeting of about 120 hierarchs from Europe and US. Senior members of national governments, multi-national companies, royal families, media corporations and financial institutions have met up annually since its inception in 1954. Little is known of the contents of their meetings, due to strictly enforced privacy - which may finally be weakening, as more leaks are emerging. We hear a range of voices this week, including Tony Gosling and Michael Parenti as well as Daniel Estulin's speech on the Bilderberg group given this year to the European parliament.

Wikileaks: A big dangerous US government con job

10-12-2010 20:35 | Anti-militarism | Other Press | Social Struggles | World

The story on the surface makes for a script for a new Oliver Stone Hollywood thriller. A 39-year old Australian hacker holds the President of the United States and his State Department hostage to a gigantic cyber “leak,” unless the President leaves Julian Assange and his Wikileaks free to release hundreds of thousands of pages of sensitive US Government memos. A closer look at the details, so far carefully leaked by the most ultra-establishment of international media such as the New York Times, reveals a clear agenda. That agenda coincidentally serves to buttress the agenda of US geopolitics around the world from Iran to Russia to North Korea. The Wikileaks is a big and dangerous US intelligence Con Job which will likely be used to police the Internet.

SchNEWS 751: Hacktion Stations

09-12-2010 23:39 | Culture | Repression | Social Struggles | South Coast | World

A real (but largely virtual) war is being fought over control of information and your right to hear the truth - especially any truth unpalatable as far as the ruling elites are concerned. In their guise of 'The Authorities', the nod for a full on assault on WikiLeaks was given sometime ago; a not-so-covert campaign to shut the website shut down and trace and punish those responsible is well underway.

The anti-cut movement needs be radicalised

09-12-2010 22:22 | Analysis | Education | Social Struggles | World

The movement is now stuck in visible violence but lacks ideology. It is worrying that student elitism and insufficient understanding of the capitalist system will bar the working class from joining the struggle and end the movement badly. On the other hand, the leftists fail in radicalising the movement by mistaken strategies.

Revealed: Assange ‘rape’ accuser linked to notorious CIA operative (WikiLeaks)

07-12-2010 12:09 | Other Press | Social Struggles | World

One accuser, Anna Ardin, may have "ties to the US-financed anti-Castro and anti-communist groups," according to Israel Shamir and Paul Bennett, writing for CounterPunch.

While in Cuba, Ardin worked with the Las damas de blanco (the Ladies in White), a feminist anti-Castro group.

Professor Michael Seltzer pointed out that the group is led by Carlos Alberto Montaner who is reportedly connected to the CIA.

Many more mirrors

07-12-2010 10:17 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | World

"Saudi Arabia is a very conservative Arab nation, structured by the imperial powers themselves. That “kingdom’s” animosity to a much more nationalist formation like Iran is predictabe and comes as little surprise. Countries like Syria and movements such as Hezbollah and Hamas certainly do not wish for Tehran to be attacked with “shock and awe.” (That an ancient city like Bagdadd suffered such was a genuine “crime against humanity” and that should never be forgotten). Israel and the U.S. have simply not allowed “popular” arab governments to exist. Conservative Arab regimes care no more for their people than GW Bush cared for the poor children of New Orleans."

One day before the memorial of the assassination of Alexandros Grigoropoulos on December 6th, the Greek democratic dictatorship decided to activate in a tragicomic way its repression mechanisms in order to prevent the upcoming uprising of the society. All the regime’s servants are on the alert trying to manipulate the public opinion and terrorize the parts of the society that resist.

Wikileaks hounded?

05-12-2010 18:17 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Social Struggles | World

"This is the first time we have seen an attempt at the international community level to censor a website dedicated to the principle of transparency. We are shocked to find countries such as France and the United States suddenly bringing their policies on freedom of expression into line with those of China. We point out that in France and the United States, it is up to the courts, not politicians, to decide whether or not a website should be closed.
Meanwhile, two Republican senators, John Ensign and Scott Brown, and an independent Joe Lieberman, have introduced a bill that would make it illegal to publish the names of U.S. military and intelligence agency informants. This could facilitate future prosecutions against WikiLeaks and its founder. But a criminal investigation is already under way and many U.S. politicians are calling vociferously for Assange’s arrest."

What are they so affraid of? Good reason to support Wiki!
