A recent news report detailing the effects of Globalisation – western economic/military expansionism by any other name – and the explosion of organised criminal activity in the Balkans was aired today on ABC Radio Australia. The primary item of interest dealt with the negative impact that Western Europe, including the UK, is experiencing as a result of the activities of Albanian, Turkish, Bosnian, Bulgarian and Serbian criminal syndicates. According to the report NATO’s intervention and the subsequent elimination of traditional regulatory forces and authorities in the region has facilitated the “explosion”.

A very interesting overview of of the US/UK imperial aims and methods from 1945 to the present and the crisis that it is currently facing. This presentation, and the questions and answer session is an hour and 40 mins long but it is well worth listening to.

Baker and crew want Syria involved in talks regarding the future of Iraq—a bleak future, thanks to the United States—an effort the neocons will stop at any cost.

The political party, UPV (Union Popular Venezolana), led by Chavez militant, Lina Ron, also joined the demonstrations, where the various groups marched in support of Venezuelan President Chavez, for the consolidation of the revolution, and for the continued autonomous mobilization of their various movements.

On 20 Nov 2006, The New Statesman led a cover story by Stephen Grey, the author of "Ghost Plane: the inside story of the CIA's secret rendition programme". Under the title "Missing Presumed Tortured", the article wondered whatever happened to the 7,000 or so prisoners captured in America's 'war on terror', when just 700 of them ended up in Guantanamo Bay. "Between extraordinary rendition to foreign jails and disappearance into the CIA's 'black sites'," Grey asks, "what happened to the rest?"

The majority of Israeli settlements have been constructed either entirely or partially on private Palestinian land, in violation of Israeli law itself, according to a new report by Peace Now, one of the oldest peace movements in Israel that monitors Israel settlements in the West Bank. Based on data from a 2004 survey by the Civil Administration, which was leaked to Peace Now through an official in the CA, the report found that nearly 40% of the land the settlements sit on is effectively stolen from Palestinian landowners. Settlements in the occupied West Bank are illegal under international law, but Israel has long 'rejected' this. Some 430,000 Jews live in these residential areas in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
