A relatively big march took place in Vienna today as part of the Oct 7 actions against migration controls [call]. It followed 2 other smaller actions in the city centre today (see report in German). Bellow is a timeline of the events.

Bologna, Italy, 6 october.

In Bologna,today a large delegation of anti-racist and autonomous activists from social centers TPO and Crash waited several hours outside of the detention center (CPT) of the city for the Ministerial Commision led by UN ambassador De Mistura and made up of representative of various Italian NGOs and associations (Anci; Caritas;ACLI; FCEI; ARCI; ASGI; CIR) that are working with the ministry of internal affairs, to study and report on the conditions of the detention centers.

Warsaw, 6 Oct 2006. A bus carrying Chechen refugees from Lublin to a demonstration against immigration policies in Warsaw was stopped by the Polish police around 15:00 (Polish time) today. In response, the demonstrators decided to block the Bureau of Deportation Affairs and Foreigners in Warsaw, where the demo was being held. The passengers, with their children, are still being held 7 hours on, and it seems that 3 of them are going to be deported. Below is a timeline of the events.

At 6.00am on the morning of Thursday the 20th September, immigration and police officers 'snatched' the family from their Leeds home and took them to Tinsley House IRC, where they spent five days before being transferred to Yarl's Wood IRC. Removal directions have been set for Sunday the 8th October.

Filipina overseas workers in Lebanon are being treated like “modern-day slaves,” this was the main finding of Filipinos who had just arrived from Lebanon as part of an international civil society and parliamentary delegation.

A big operation has begun to evict up to 1,000 immigrants, who have been occupying a former student hostel in Cachan, on the outskirts of Paris, for over 5 years. The block, which is mainly occupied by undocumented immigrants and homeless people, is one of the biggest squats in Europe.

Mon 14th Aug: Today Beirut began to return to life. Shops are opening and the roads are jammed with traffic. For the first time since I have been here people are obeying the traffic lights. Hundreds of refugees are flooding back into the devastated south Beirut district of Dhayiya, with a dignity that is breathtaking.
