Nazila’s Life is in Great Danger!

According to the latest news from IFIR’s branch in Turkey, Nazila Mohamad Hasani Zamani’s life is in serious danger and she is threatened to be deported back to Iran by the Turkish Government. She was told by the Turkish police that the Iranian embassy has asked the Turkish police to hand Nazila over to them.

Nazila’s life can only be saved by an international pressure on the UNHCR.

The European Commission has developed the controversial UK plan to keep refugees outside the EU by giving so-called protection in the region and resettlement. There is no clear legal basis for scheme. It has been set out in a form that allows officials to simply proceed without any consultation of national or European parliaments.

Barcelona, 29th May 2004. People without papers held a public assembly in Plaza Cataluna, to discuss a demonstration and the possibility to occupy churches the next weekend. It was called by the "Assembly for Regularisation without Conditions", an immigrant self organisation. Indymedia Barcelona is reporting about the progress of the movement - and also about the repression against it: 2 Barcelona Churches were occupied and evicted, 25 immigrants are facing eviction, more demos and actions all over Spain are announced.

The picture shows people scribbling their demands on a 25 meter roll of paper cellotaped on the marble stones of Placa Catalunya. The following text describes how this simple action developed.

Imatra is a small town with a population of 30 000 in eastern Finland, right next to the Russian border. Just beyond this division of the world's second biggest poverty gap (right after the border of Mexico and US) is another small town called Svetogorsk with population of only 15 000. Sixteen adults and three children will take part in the event at Brent town hall in north London.
