MSSC STRUGGLE REPORT (05.05/06)

Yesterday was Children Day, a holyday here (but actually on many places, such as construction sites or in small factories the workers had… of course to work! Just smash capitalism!). The majority of MSSC went to Ilsan to take a part on the culture program for children, organized by Friends of Asia. Stop Crackdown Band were playing and one of our Nepalese comrades performed Lennon’s “Imagine” - just the audience were fascinated, eyewitnesses said.
Here in Seoul the reporter of this lines at first wanted to support Park Joon’s and friends’ celebration for the Children Day in the early afternoon in front of Sejong Culture Center, near Gwanghwamun. But changing the plan, just one hour after arriving there another strange possibility was given: solidarity with the striking tower crane operators. Together with the video activist Hong Kil-dong (in the forest) and an activist of KFCITU (Korean Federation of Construction Industry Trade Unions) we made a solidarity visit on a construction site in Sangam-dong, near the World Cup Stadium, where 8 K.T.C.O.T.U. (Korean Tower Crane Operators Trade Union) activists occupied a 100 meter high crane. Here – on 99 other construction sites in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do 492 other K.T.C.O.T.U. activists did the same in 100 meters height (a Korean article you can read here) – already the riot cops were on the spot. After taking some material for documentation we held a small rally to support the strugglers, plaid revolutionary songs through the sound system in/on our propaganda vehicle and shouted solidarity slogans. The crane occupiers want to stay there three days.
Following we visited the striking K.T.C.O.T.U. activists - now since 9 days they're in strike for better wages, overtime payment and more security on the work places - in Seoul National University, around 1000 are still there. We got the possibility to make an interview with Choi Dong-joo, the chief coordinator of the current struggle. The interview you can see in the docu-video.
After this, now it was already in the early evening, we went back to Sejong Center to meet there Eom Kwang-hyeon Heaven, Earth and Man Band, disabled activists, protest singer Ji Min-joo and some others more. Following all together we went to Yaksu-dong and had a great get-together finishing this day.
Today nothing really exciting was happen, except we build a new kitchen on our struggle site.

For to understand the last picture you have to read this!
