Not just a Protest Vote: Sack the Parties, Vote Local

25-01-2010 09:40 | Analysis | Culture | World

A proposal for a non-ideological, word-of-mouth election campaign based on the principle of trust. In the forthcoming UK general election, candidates who represent no political party, only themselves (and by association the communities in which they live), stand for election with the single pledge to resign if elected. This gives voters a “none of the above” option, allowing them to vote against all the parties; but more than that, it gives them the chance to vote positively, for a trustworthy candidate who doesn't want power over others, and thus to vest moral authority in the local community, not in a distant Parliament.

Prince William should not come to Australia on Australia Day

16-12-2009 19:54 | Culture | Repression | World

Prince Willliam
Prince William’s plan to come to Australia and give a speech on our national day is political, even if the Palace denies it. It is no doubt an attempt to stave off growing republican feelings in our country, and to maintain the status quo and keep the cruel and outdated constitutional monarchy under which we are suffering here in Australia. I understand he will be visiting New Zealand too.

'Moodle', 'Sloodle' and virtual worlds in classrooms, limited parental access.

03-12-2009 23:48 | Culture | Education | Technology | World

If you ask for your child to bring home his exercise books you will likely be told that according to 'guidelines' this is not permitted. However, your local school may suggest that you go to the school to see your child's work, where a teacher will explain what is in their books to you. My suggestion is that exercise books may be phased out, and students will get their 'education' inside virtual worlds. 'Moodle' is already in place.

Students Revolt in Austria Enters 10th Day

29-10-2009 22:58 | Culture | Education | Social Struggles | World

Vienna – The Students Revolt in Austria which began last week with the occupation of the Vienna School of Art and spread wildly over the whole country entered today its 10th Day.

Today, four thousand people took the streets in Graz, in southeastern Austria, to protest against the continuing degradation of their study and living conditions. In early afternoon, the assembly-hall of the faculty of social sciences at Innsbruck University, in the federal state of Tyrol, was squatted by students. That means that, at the moment, lecture rooms and spaces at all principal Austrian universitys are occupied by student activists. Only the little university of Leoben, in Styria, which specializes in mining is not yet seized by the waves of protest.
