Prince William’s plan to come to Australia and give a speech on our national day is political, even if the Palace denies it. It is no doubt an attempt to stave off growing republican feelings in our country, and to maintain the status quo and keep the cruel and outdated constitutional monarchy under which we are suffering here in Australia. I understand he will be visiting New Zealand too.

This monarchy is sadly all about make-believe, pomp and ceremony, and not about democracy and representing the people. There are some countries like Sweden for instance, who have a monarchy, a high standard of living and where human rights have real meaning. Sweden is a role model, but they also have a hands-on Queen Silvia and King Carl Gustav.

The Australia Act 1986 removed British power over Australia. What we are left with is a cold and costly monarchy with the brains removed. I petitioned the Queen on human rights abuses and judicial corruption involving Robert Wensley QC, the brother of Queensland Governor Penelope Wensley and three other judges. But my petition was returned to Governor General Quentin Bryce in Canberra who is incommunicado!

I strongly agree with Brisbane Courier Mail Journalist Terry Sweetman, who recently wrote this about Queensland Governor Penelope Wensley:
“As far as I can figure out from the pompous vice-regal notices that emanate from Fernberg, apart from a trip to Ingham last Sunday her official life has continued to be a whirl of largely inconsequential piffle... It's hard not to conclude that the duties of Queensland governor are an insult to an intelligent woman or about as meaningful as, well, Peter Beattie's trade commissioner gig. Whenever I mention the bizarre waste of about $4 million a year on the Queensland governor, somebody responds listing the number of tea parties and receptions involved and how busy, busy, busy she is. So are bees, but at least they produce honey”.
We need integrity, accountability and transparency in government and parliament and direct democracy with true values and 21st century human rights, including a long overdue Australian bill of rights, instead of this costly and obsolete monarchy, which has absolutely no benefit for us!
The sooner we become a republic, the better!
