Having observed the EDL for a while and am completely flumoxed by their hatred and general nastiness, I've gathered together a few questions that the various EDL groups refuse to answer. Maybe some of those who read Indymedia would care to answer?

Western vilification of Islam is longstanding, cruel, and unjustifiable. Notably post-911, they've viciously targeted Muslims for political advantage. Throughout America, continental Europe and Britain it rages, harming innocent men and women. With no regard for democratic values and justice, they're bogusly charged and imprisoned for crimes they neither planned or committed. Yet supportive media reports convict by accusation, the public unaware that supposed threats were lies, yet it repeats endlessly.

Analyse, criticise, dismantle EU!

A considerable part of all legislative and political decisions are currently made via the European Union. Expected resistance in the 27 member states is thwarted by this ”policy laundering” while the financially strongest governments furthermore dominate the course. At the same time the EU enlarge its powers through its own structures which coordinate cross-border activities as well as advance projects under its own direction.

This policy is especially noticeable in the area of European ”homeland defence” and its securitization, militarisation and gendarmerisation of social phenomenons. There is, however, no increased attention which accompanies the development of the EU by now, for example by the social movements. The radical Left, as well, which is normally never short of criticism of the state, remains speechless.

Toronto's Jewish Defence League has announced a 'support rally' for the EDL. at the Toronto Zionist Centre, Tuesday, January 11, at 7:00 PM. 'JDL Supports the EDL' said JDL spokesperson Meir Weinstein. The event has alarmed many in the city who plan strong protests against both organizations.

GFEST - Gaywise FESTival organisers in London faced a tricky censorship stipulation from GFEST 2010 venue Hampstead Town Hall - where the visual arts exhibition was held in Nov 2010 - to cover a few queer art works post exhibition closing time. They have written to the Town Hall Trustees / board of management to seek their official clarification but haven’t heard anything as yet.

On Tuesday 11 January 2011, the illegal detention and torture camp at Guantánamo Bay will have been open for NINE years. Barack Obama has broken his promise to close it by January this year and the situation for prisoners has recently worsened with Congress voting to prevent any more civilian trials for prisoners facing charges and attempting to block the release of any more prisoners. It's been a bit of a year for the far right and now they are being eclipsed by other, more important matters!

Five Somalians nationals were convicted of piracy in a United States federal court in Norfolk, Virginia on Nov. 24. The sentencing of the Somalians will take place in March 2011 and they could be given life in prison based on a combination of slave-era laws and criminal statutes that have not been litigated in this manner since 1861....

The EDL caused the usual ruckus in Preston and Nuneaton yesterday whilst this week the police claim they are not a right wing extremist group.
