When Roger Franklin of Stroud, aged 84, received a court summons for failing to comply with the 2011 Census, he wrote to the Magistrates in Bristol explaining his stance and refusing to enter a plea. Roger was found guilty at a court hearing on 8 February. His fine has just been paid by a total of 222 individual donations as cheques made payable to the court, many sent with scathing comments about the conviction.

The mass protest at Hinkley Point nuclear power station on Saturday attracted more than 1,000 people from all over the UK – the largest protests against a the construction of a nuclear power station in four decades.

Nuclear energy company EDF today served papers on activists occupying a farm on the proposed site for nuclear new build at Hinkley Point in Somerset. The papers, served by Squire Sanders of London, are applying for possession of the premises and, in an unprecedented move, an injunction against all future protests at this site: this includes any protests by other local residents, such as campaign group Stop Hinkley.
