The U.S. "war on terror" is in fact a war on international law and
civilization, a catch-all category of assaults on the weak. Under the
anti-terror banner, Washington grinds Somalia into the sand, through hi-tech
weaponry and the deployment of Ethiopian surrogates. No more rationale is
offered for murderous aggression in the Horn of Africa than the presence of
people the U.S. calls "Islamists" - a label designed to excuse any and all
American crimes against Muslims. "More than 600,000 Somalis have fled from
their homes and at least 6,000 are dead." The savaging of Somalia is
nonpartisan - Democrats are as bloody-handed as Republicans. "It takes
foolish optimism to think that the willing accomplices to crime will change
their ways when Bush is gone."

The delegates to the Church of Scotland's general assembly gathered on 15 May were urged to support a resolution that calls on Britain and the United States to take no further action that could lead to an invasion of Iran.

"We will strongly urge the British government to do everything in its power to discourage the American government from undertaking any form of military strike against Iran. And if the Americans ignore that advice, then Britain must make clear its strong opposition for such a move" said Morag Mylne, convenor of the Church and Society Council of the Scottish Presbyterian church.

The cycle of attacks and retribution is part of a psy-ops campaign of fear that is meant to frighten the people into complying with government demands. Led by Dick Cheney, Bush administration neocons want war on Iran. So does the Israeli Lobby, but it doesn't mean they'll get it. Powerful forces in Washington and the Pentagon are opposed and so far have prevailed. Nonetheless, worrisome recent events increase the possibility and must be closely watched.
