Obama's Choice of Biden: "The Devil Made Me Do It."

29-08-2008 21:36 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Terror War | World

A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford

Flip Wilson's comedic character "Geraldine" knew who to blame for her own indiscretions: "The Devil made me do it." The same goes for Barack Obama who, his
supporters are quick to explain, is blameless for his political sins and betrayals. The "white folks" made him do it, or "the polls" made him do it - but never the candidate, himself. However, it will be hard to find a devil to blame for Obama's choice of Sen. Joe Biden - "as much a war monger as George Bush" - as his running mate. The fact is, Obama "was never a progressive - he just briefly played one to win points in an Illinois
Democratic primary election six years ago." Let the Devil be.

El Salvador will not leave Iraq "till Iraqis control the situation"

03-08-2008 20:48 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | Other Press | World

It's all very easy at times to forget that when the proper instruments of international arbitration were sidelined (UN) and systematically delegitamized (IAEA) in the lead-up to the illegal war on aggression on Iraq in 2003 the subsequent classified occupying power still being the USA, there was assembled a motley crew of states termed the "coalition of the willing".

17 of that group withdrew their troops. But plucky little El Salvador which sent 360 soldiers at the beginning will deploy its 10th contigent of 200 next week - according to a Radio broadcast today by presidente Elías Antonio Saca.

28-07-2008 18:13 | Anti-militarism | Iraq | World

A group of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) are planning to start
up a GI coffeehouse near the entrance of the Fort Lewis military base
in Washington State. Though the project is still in its planning
stages, the idea is that it will be a center for supporting GI rights
and war resistance in the region, as well as a place for GIs to get
coffee right off the base.

State-Sponsored Terror: British and American Black Ops in Iraq

29-06-2008 23:10 | Analysis | Iraq | Terror War | World

Shining Light on the "Black World"

In January of 2002, the Washington Post ran a story detailing a CIA plan put forward to President Bush shortly after 9/11 by CIA Director George Tenet titled, "Worldwide Attack Matrix," which was "outlining a clandestine anti-terror campaign in 80 countries around the world. What he was ready to propose represented a striking and risky departure for U.S. policy and would give the CIA the broadest and most lethal authority in its history." The plan entailed CIA and Special Forces "covert operations across the globe," and at "the heart of the proposal was a recommendation that the president give the CIA what Tenet labeled "exceptional authorities" to attack and destroy al Qaeda in Afghanistan and the rest of the world." Tenet cited the need for such authority "to allow the agency to operate without restraint -- and he wanted encouragement from the president to take risks." Among the many authorities recommended was the use of "deadly force."

Independent Media Coverage of Middle East War: From BAFTA to the Border

29-06-2008 23:06 | Iraq | Palestine | World

“Man's inhumanity to man Makes countless thousands mourn." Robert Burns (1759-1796)

On 16th June, Mohammed Omer (24) became the youngest journalist to be presented with the prestigious Martha Gellhorn Prize for journalism, 2008. Omer and Dahr Jamail, two independent correspondents, were co-recipients, for their extraordinary coverage of Gaza and Iraq, respectively. Alone, in dangerous and difficult regions, their writings have towered, dwarfing many household names with mega-media backing. As their colleagues (especially other independents) have been murdered and shot, often by security forces and frequently by unknowns, they ploughed a lone, courageous furrough.
