Elections in Ukraine: too far, too close

27-10-2004 15:53 | Analysis | Repression | Social Struggles | World

While the whole world is holding its breath waiting for the US elections, and European activists are involved in struggles in such distant territories as Bolivia and Palestine, - the whole cycle of events going on in Ukraine passes unnoticed. But neither First nor the Third World, neither part of "axis of evil" nor European Union, Ukraine is too far to be understood, and too close to be interested.

Blair and Beslan

27-10-2004 14:37 | Analysis | Indymedia | London | World

British economic and military interests remain tied to the Russian federation, and so long as there is little domestic pressure to end our support for Russian policy there is little reason to believe that Britain's particular contribution to the horrors in Chechnya will end any time soon.

Voting Rights for Non-US citizens in 2004 US Presidential Elections

26-10-2004 21:24 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Free Spaces | World

In recent years, particularly since the tragic events of September the 11th 2001, the United States have taken it upon themselves to follow a foreign policy without the sanction of the global community. The actions taken, especially in Iraq, are likely to have repercussions that affect any person on the planet. It is only right, therefore, that anyone ought to be allowed to vote for the person ultimately responsible for the policy; the President of the United States of America. Now you can express your views in a website namely www.voteinusa.com. Hope you may find this interesting!!

Resistance not responsible for abduction of aid worker

24-10-2004 14:00 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | World

Resistance not responsible for abduction of aid worker. Will the CIA have her beheaded and offer another grisly video to assure the American people that our enemy is pure evil and that God is on “our side? The best protection we can offer her is to understand what is going on and spread that understanding. Wake up already. It’s 1984. jamie

The US and Russia: Democracy in Check

18-10-2004 22:20 | Analysis | Indymedia | Repression | World

At the end of September, 115 politicians and foreign policy experts signed a letter that was delivered to the heads of NATO and European Union States. The letter criticized Russian President, Vladimir Putin's recent moves to end Democratic process in Russia. One of the recipients of the letter was George Bush, jr. As a man who has moved to end Democratic process in his own country, it would have been very hypocritical of Bush to condemn Putin for his actions. Consequently the only rebuke was Bush stating that he hopes Putin does not abandon Democracy upheld by checks and balances within the Russian government, but even this was ironic.

Is the American election redundant?

15-10-2004 14:59 | Analysis | Globalisation | Repression | World

From a global perspective, the America election, is not a dead heat, it is totally one sided. I am an outside observer, living in Canada; America is and Americans are my long-standing neighbors, old friends and allies. I speak to each American individually, as well as all others as we are all descendents of what ultimately presides.
Most Americans need to get something straight before this election, but your closed media will not likely publish this within its narrow perception.

Venezuela: After the Referendum

13-10-2004 12:42 | Venezuela | Analysis | Social Struggles | World

* The August 2004 elections legitimized Hugo Chávez's presidency, approved by the multinational powers-that-be, despite the opposition's claims of electoral fraud. We, at El Libertario (issue 39, September/October 2004), presented an indepth analysis of the consecuences of the referendum, as well as proposals for action in the new circumstances. We shall now quote a couple of notes from that issue that express the essence of the venezuelan anarchists' perspective.
