Once again Israel starts a war that others will have to clean up.

Only a year ago I was speculating that Israel's real agenda might be to trick the US and Russia into a mutually destructive war, leaving Israel and its nuclear weapons in control of the Middle East and its oil.

This is especially interesting contrasted against the recent revelations which support the antiwar movement's contention that the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan was about oil & gas pipeline routes from the Caspian Sea Basin.

Police have set up a search regime for every single person visiting the camp that is unknown at any border checkpoint in the world other than Israel / Palestine. It is analogous to that faced by visitors to prison. It assumes anyone going to the camp is a potential criminal, whereas the legal power used requires them to have actual suspicion that they are.

“We intend to intervene against the continued illegal whaling activities of the Japanese fleet in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary,” said Captain Paul Watson. “We intend to stop the killing of endangered species of whales in the Sanctuary, whales that are being killed in violation of the global moratorium on whaling. Since when does failing to accept an “offer” (so sweet) result in punishment? Threats are being made not “offers.” Such threats are in fact violations of international law themselves!

George Orwell would understand the critical importance of combating this effort at “mind subversion” and of preventing more war. Now is a great time for a reread of 1984. You history and English teachers should teach it now as well (or is such independence no longer allowed at your school)? The current context could not offer a better “teachable moment.”
