Recently, an investigation dating back to the Genoa G8 summit during July 2001 has concluded that the Daily Mail reporter bribed three Italian police officers to gain access to one of the G8 Diaz school victims.

Yesterday police raided the Occupy Oakland encampment. One protester, an Iraq War veteran was hit in the face with a tear gas canister. Legal observers and media were kept away from the raid.

I'm sure this constitutes "non-news" but it does also constitute a collective sense of relief at still having an open publishing platform to express whatever's on your mind....

On 1st May 2011 the UK Indymedia Network forked into two autonomous projects, running two different websites, UK Indymedia and Be The Media. Also, a snapshot of the UK Indymedia site as it existed on the date of the the fork was created as an archive.

There was a consensus in the UK Indymedia Network that the project needed to fork, so that Indymedia members with different views could all work on developments they were happy with rather than come into constant conflict. An agreement was made in December to implement the fork on May 1st but the agreement broke down at the eleventh hour. Mayday believed that part of the agreement was that their collective was to have globally recognised Independent Media Centre status at the time of the fork. Be The Media had interpreted this differently and did not see it this way. The consensus that had been thrashed some 4 months before had now snapped and activists, being activists, took action. Be The Media started implementing the changes to the site shortly after midnight on May 1st. Mayday saw what was happening, considered the blocks to have been ignored [1] and felt that if this proceeded it would have in effect shut down the UK Newswire. After several hours of discussion and consideration they agreed they couldn't let it proceed like this and so, in the early hours of May 1st, sleepless techies migrated the entire web site to a new server, thus effecting the fork on the agreed date but not in the way originally planned.

The Bradford consensus decision is invalid on two counts if it was the intention, deliberate or otherwise, to expel Group A from the global network.

GENOA: One of the most important court cases in Italian history is the legal process for the raid on the Diaz school during the G8 in 2001. So far, this infamous event has convicted 25 Diaz police commanders and enlisted men when the Ligurian appeal verdict was announced on May 18th 2010.

Indymedia UK, one of the oldest Indymedia websites worldwide, will fork in two projects by the 1st of May 2011 [1]. A contentious point was IP monitoring [2] by uk.indymedia.org which led to a fierce controversy [3] | [4] | [5] | [6]. Both the British Indymedia website and de.indymedia.org run on the content management system Mir [7] and de.indymedia.org logs IPs temporarily, too. But what exactly does that mean?

Attached is a CSV file (which should open in Open Office) of all the posts from gateway-303.energis.gsi.gov.uk and gateway-202.energis.gsi.gov.uk that were caught by the anti-abuse filters set up to detect this Police abuse of the site.

“No - stuff that - SHUT the place: Let’s not all stand around like lemmings - lets shut the place!Bring ladders and wire cutters. If there are enough of us we can shut it!” - a pretty average comment on Indymedia you might think - if a little gung-ho. In fact it was posted there by the police - and SchNEWS has the proof.

Tomorrow (Friday 20th) a court in Lausanne Switzerland will hear an appeal by photographer Guy Smallman who was crippled by a deliberately targeted Police Stun Grenade during the G8 protests in 2003. Mr Smallman previously won his case but the State of Geneva successfully appealed the first ruling. The Swiss Federal Court will hear arguments from both sides tomorrow morning and makes its decision in the same session. If Mr Smallman wins then he will qualify for compensation for his injuries. If he loses then he will owe thousands in legal costs to the State of Geneva.

He has been supported in his fight by both UK Indymedia and the National Union of Journalists over the past six years.
