This year's Earth First Summer Gathering takes place in East Anglia this year, starting on the 10th of August and running for five days. With six workshops tents we have space for over 100 discussions, presentations and workshops. The spaces are filling up fast, but there is still time to book a spot. In October 2011, leading UK organizers John Stewart and Dan Glass will cross the U.S., sharing the real story of one of the biggest climate battles of the past decade as part of the 'Aviation Justice Express'.

Would any sane person think dumpster diving would have stopped Hitler, or that composting would have ended slavery or brought about the eight-hour workday, or that chopping wood and carrying water would have gotten people out of Tsarist prisons, or that dancing naked around a fire would have helped put in place the Voting Rights Act of 1957 or the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Then why now, with all the world at stake, do so many people retreat into these entirely personal “solutions”?

This post is a response to Charlotte DuCann’s beautiful and heartfelt post over on the Transition Norwich blog arguing that Transition needs to more explicitly embrace activism.  It is wonderful to see, whether through that blog, through Transition Voice, or through the emerging social reporting project, new voices coming through in the Transition blogosphere.  Charlotte speaks powerfully to the split that some of those engaged in Transition feel, that they almost need to keep their activism ‘in the closet’ in order to remain engaged.  She states that she sees her post as a ‘working document’, and invites reflections, so here are a few of mine.

In response to Shell's AGM today in The Hague and London, the Shell to Sea campaign have shut down the Belmullet Shell office in protest against the on-going controversial Corrib Gas project. Shell will attempt to begin construction on the high pressure raw gas pipeline shortly despite a legal challenge by An Taisce and two local residents.

As a result of the alarming rise in temperatures, the outbreak of forest fires right across Britain, and the worldwide escalation in global warming disasters, an appeal is being made for Network X to hold an urgent consultation with all the activist groups with a view to moving en masse into the Hounslow area to create a futuristic eco-village to save the human race from being driven to extinction by the burning of fossil fuels.
Some of the original road protesters from the 1990s have already moved into Hounslow near Heathrow Airport in preparation for working with local residents to help them transform their derelict run-down Dickensian neighbourhood into the world's first fully sustainable eco-town as the earth faces unprecedented ecological cataclysm.

In their pursuit of development and industriali$ation, Morales and the MAS government of Bolivia are trampling indigenous communities and the environment. There is a widening gap between their rhetoric and their actions.
This road would mean death for the indigenous communities there, as the area is opened up to exploitation for oil, timber and cocaine. The indigenous representatives of the area have made a unanimous decision to reject any road that passes through their land. They have a legal right to consultation. This consultation has never happened.

The Stop Nuclear Power Network  http://stopnuclearpoweruk.net staged a four-day anti-nuclear camp on the beach beside Sizewell nuclear power station in Suffolk, eastern England from 22-25 April 2011. Campers marked the 25th anniversary of Chernobyl, the world's worst ever nuclear accident, on 26 April 1986, and sent out a clear message: 'No' to nuclear greenwash, 'Yes' to sustainable alternatives.

Campaigners from the national Stop Nuclear Power Network are planning a packed programme of activities at Sizewell over the Easter weekend (22-25 April). (1).

The annual beach camp beside the nuclear power station in Suffolk, England, now into its third year, will have added significance this year due to the unfolding disaster at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant in Japan, and because it marks 25 years since the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe in the Ukraine. Which unfortunately led to a slanging match between various posters(including ourselves) using names with big A's, circled @'s, little a's, the colour black and something to do with blocs (not Lego) . Various threats and rude words were used.

At 7am this morning a group of people entered Shells land in Aughoose. 2 people attached themselves together using a concrete tube blocking Shells new bog mat road that runs through their compound. The blockade lasted 11 hours and was followed by a spontaneousness action that stopped work for a further hour.

This is an attempt at a polite request about infiltrators and the media.

Please do not talk to the media any more about PC Mark Kennedy, PC “Marco Jacobs” and PC “Lyn Watson”.
