Stopping the city.

On Friday a demo in the City of London was met with far fewer MET than expected. So the mixture of trots, students and activists went on a tour of some of our more wealthy institutions, much to the alarm of the outnumbered cops who got increasingly sweaty over the next hour as they tried and failed to control the crowd. Demonstration Against Ugandan Human Rights Abuse, London 9 Oct, 2008

October 9 is Uganda Independence Day, but for gay Nigerians in particular there is little to celebrate. Around 50 people met in a demonstration sponsored by the NUS outside the Ugandan Embassy in Trafalgar Square at noon on Ugandan Independence Day, Oct 9, to protest against human rights abuses in Uganda.

Freedom Not Fear - Anti-surveillance Day Sat 11th October - Scotland Yard

In London: Assemble 1pm at New Scotland Yard, with pots, pans and other stuff to make some noise!!

A broad movement of campaigners and organizations is calling on everybody to join action against excessive surveillance by governments and businesses. On 11 October 2008, concerned people in many countries will take to the streets, the motto being "Freedom not fear 2008". Creative action, from protest marches to parties, will take place in many capital cities.
