ABOUT US

Reclaiming the Media

At its most basic level, open publishing erodes the dividing line between reporters and reported, between active producers and passive audience - people are enabled to speak for themselves.

Simply put, you - not "indymedia" - are the reporters.

IMC-London does not have an editor who decides whether to publish your story. Unless your report breaks the Editorial Guidelines it will appear on the newswire shortly after you file it.

IMC-London does not even censor posts that break these guidelines, it just elects not to show them on its newswire. They still appear on the view all posts page. Only posts showing inappropriate personal details of private individuals, intimidatory or destructive material is deleted from the database, and for the sake of transparency this is always reported to the imc-london list.

IMC-London is administered by volunteers who meet once a month, and who are in frequent contact via email and IRC. Anyone who agrees with the spirit of the Mission Statement is welcome to participate.

For example, the features on the middle column of the website are proposed and written by volunteers communicating on the IMC-London list. If no one objects to the feature proposal within 24 hours it is uploaded to the middle column.

The 24-hour rule ensures that everybody can contribute to the middle column and allows time for collaborative improvements and considerations.

Additionally IMC-London organises film screenings, radio programs, and printed materials. During major events it provides public access terminals to enable direct participant reporting.

IMC-London spawned, and is now part of the imc network of the united kollektives (imc-uk). As such, IMC-London is integral to the background and history of IndyMedia UK.
