'Failure is not an option' for Vestas. It ain't for us either.

06-10-2009 11:48 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Workers' Movements | South Coast | World

'Failure is not an option' for Vestas, according to their Business Strategy. It's not an option for the campaign to save the Newport, Isle of Wight factory either. We have the 'Will to win' that Vestas' CEO claims Vestas' have. The factory will reopen. Wind Turbine Blades will be produced in the UK, for the UK. Workers will be unionised. You never know, the factory might even be a workers' coop.

Investors in Vestas? Sell your shares...

05-10-2009 09:44 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Workers' Movements | South Coast | World

Vestas claim they are 'Number 1. in Modern Energy', and indeed are responsible for developing and installing much of the world's wind/renewable energy. However, they've shown their true colours (not so 'green' after all) this summer - through closing their St. Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight factory, leading to the loss of 600 jobs. Unions were banned & working conditions deteriorating prior to closure, & 11 workers who occupied the factory to save it have been paid no redundancy. There will be a long-term campaign as a result. Will it effect Vestas Share Price? Watch This Space:  http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q?s=VWS.CO

Vestas Management promote Community Control

02-10-2009 12:14 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Workers' Movements | South Coast | World

Leafing through company reports is usually a thankless and dull task. No so with Vestas - all sorts of fascinating opinion. Here's to a community buy out of the St. Corss Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight factory by ex-workers, locals, Climate Campers, Bicycologists, Climate Rushers, Workers Liberty, SWP & SP, Green Party, with financial support from Ecotricity and others shall we?

Vestas Workers Solidarity Camp - Photos

Players...
Since the removal of the 'Marine Gate' 'Blade Blockade', and the Turbine Blades that remained in the Vestas Blades UK factory on St. Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight, campaigners have been sorting out the original 'Magic Roundabout' Camp, and considering strategy. A Marquee has been erected and a fair amount of furniture skipped / built to make the area comfortable and well-resourced in terms of power (80-odd watts of solar power for phone and laptop charging), a solar shower, and spare tents for visitors.

Get down to Vestas - Occupy, Camp, Resist, Cook, Produce!

27-09-2009 20:50 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Workers' Movements | South Coast | World

There has been a camp outside the Vestas factory on the St. Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight, since at least the beginning of the Occupation of the factory on 20th July this year. The camp has a well established kitchen run by volunteers who serve quality vegan evening meals 'Roundabout 8', with lunch and breakfast also provided and sometimes cooked too. Those who occupied the factory are often present, together with climate campers and those from assorted lefty groups and unions. Get down there and join 'em! ...and take some cake with ya!

How to Get to Vestas - go there now!

22-09-2009 21:21 | COP15 Climate Summit 2009 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Workers' Movements | South Coast | World

It's really important that people get down to Vestas ASAP to prevent the last few Wind Turbine Blades remaining in the St Cross Business Park, Newport, IOW factory, and in Southampton Docks, from leaving to America. This is a really good piece of leverage to argue for reinstatement of sacked workers, better redundancy packages, installation of the blades on turbines in the UK, a buyout of the factory and worker control of it, and better Energy and Climate Change policies from govt, businesses, trade unions, individuals etc. Get on it!

Urgent: Vestas Blade Blockade Needs You

22-09-2009 10:02 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Workers' Movements | South Coast | World

Moving a blade around the Blade Park inside the factory
Activists outside the Vestas factory on the St Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight have been tipped off that Tuesday at 12 noon a 'Blade Runner' barge is coming down the river Medina to the Vestas factory from Southampton to pick up some of the remaining blades still inside the factory. Those present expect a big police presence along with big support from other supporters and activists. They claim they are prepared to do anything and everything to stop Vestas from shipping these blades or from getting anything into the factory if that’s their plan.

Dawn at Vestas Blade Blockade

21-09-2009 10:46 | Climate Chaos | Energy Crisis | Workers' Movements | South Coast | World

Dawn over the River Medina at Low Tide (no chance of a barge taking the blades)
The Blade Blockade at the (once Occupied) Vestas Wind Turbine Blade Factory at the St Cross Business Park, Dodnor Lane, Newport, Isle of Wight was served a letter before claim type notice of eviction from WIGGUN solicitors the other day. We took some nice photos of the dawn the day after to encourage people to visit (on yer way to Calais, natch). Climbers, cooks and nocturnal creatures particularly warmly welcomed. The fires are still burning!

Critique of Climate Camp action 17/18 October

16-09-2009 11:09 | Energy Crisis | Technology | World

“It’s time to start imagining a future without coal” says the call-out. Oh no! Not that crap again! If anything was going to put thoughtful people off this action, silly rhetoric like that does the trick. It’s like trying to build opposition to Donald Trump’s plans to turn acres of sand dunes near Aberdeen into a golf course for the rich, or golf courses in general, by urging people to imagine a future without grass.

On the morning of Thursday 10 September a tripod has now successfully been erected at the marine gate preventing blades from leaving the factory. A worker from the original occupation is currently standing at the top of the tripod as the blockade prepares for an increase in activity on both sides.
