Bankrupt Agrexco face possible criminal prosecution

28-08-2011 21:22 | Campaign against Carmel-Agrexco | Palestine | South Coast | World

Agrexco, the Israeli part-state owned agricultural export company that supports illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and has been the target of an international boycott campaign as a result, now faces possible criminal prosecution in Israel.

Auditors of the bankrupt firm have uncovered accountancy fraud apparently intended to cover up Agrexco's intimate relationship with the Israeli governments agricultural policies.

Although not expressly stated in this report, the report suggests that Agrexco was propping up illegal settlements in the OPTs with financial payments in order to support Israeli Govt settlement colonisation policies at the expense of their own profitability. If this is so, the case against Agrexco put by BDS campaigners over the past 7 years, of the company's complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity, has just been strengthened substantially.

Six members of Brighton Tubas Friendship and Solidarity Group are now in the West Bank. They have been visiting communities in the Jordan Valley and Bil'in, and have a lot of plans for the next few weeks. Read their blog at www.brightonpalestine.org to keep up to date with what is happening.

The Brighton Tubas Region Friendship and Solidarity Group is a network aiming at fostering links between community organisations in Tubas, occupied Palestine and Brighton. The Tubas Region, which includes the Northern Jordan Valley, is an area Israel wants to ethnically cleanse and annex. Israel is doing this by making life impossible for the people of the valley.

University anti-Zionist twinning with Palestine

21-02-2009 15:55 | Campaign against Carmel-Agrexco | Analysis | Anti-racism | Palestine | World

Last week, at a relatively well-attended meeting, my branch Executive seconded a motion to support a twinning with a Palestinian university, building on existing Student Union work. A few of us decided to propose an additional note about “the increase in antisemitic atmosphere on British campuses associated with Israel’s conflicts”. We are all broadly supportive of the twinning but conscious that in our institution it has been a vehicle for intensifying calls for the ostracisation and dissolution of Israel. Our intervention was fairly puny and didn’t say what needed to be said about this twinning - in retrospect since it was almost certain to fall we should have made more amendments.

A Campus Sit-in against Israeli Occupation: An Interview with Three Participants

On Friday, February 6, the University of Rochester-SDS (UR-SDS) organized an occupation of Goergen Hall at the University of Rochester for peace and solidarity with the Palestinians. The action was partially inspired by the wave of occupations across the UK in support of Palestine the past few weeks. UR-SDS made a list of demands of the administration (including divestment from weapons manufacturers, educational and humanitarian aid to Gaza, and scholarships for Palestinian students). In a related event, on Thursday, February 12, 2008 Hampshire College of Amherst, MA. became the first US school to divest from corporations profiting from the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
