An Arabic website, run by Syrian dissident journalist Nizar Nayouf, has exclusively published the cover page of a confidential report by the British embassy in Beirut, of which a copy was sent (or leaked) to someone in the NATO, on the assassination of Lebanese minister Pierre Gemayel. It suggests that the assassination, along with that of Samir Qassir, Gebran Twani and George Hawi earlier, were carried out by Lebanese militants affiliated with Druze leader Walid Junblat and Christian leader Samir Geagea, and not by the Syrian government or its Lebanese agents. Both groups, the reports further reveals, have been receiving military training by Ameriacn (and possibly Israeli) trainers in Jordan since November 2005. Furthermore, the report's sources think "the killers' motive" must be seen in light of an "agreement between the Sunni leader Sa'd Hariri and ex-president Amin Gemayel to nominate the latter's son, Pierre Gemayel, to succeed president Emil Lahoud next year. The report summarises that the crime was committed "mostly for regaining the initiative by the 14 March alliance and protecting PM Fouad Saniora's govermant from collapse."

The Lebanese opposition, which organized this mass demonstration are Hezbollah (Party of God), AMAL Movement (Afwaj Al-Mouqawama Al-Lubnaniyya; Lebanese Resistance Detachment), and the Christian Free Patriotic Movement (FPM). They claimed the legitimate right for such protest based on the Lebanese constitution that grants the people the right to change their government.

The Western media, which often downplays the size of public rallies and anti-war demonstrations, confirms that "hundreds of thousands" of people from all sectors of Lebanese society gathered in Beirut in anti-government demonstrations, demanding the resignation of the US-Israeli supported government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora.

THE WAR IN LEBANON IS A WAR AGAINST THE PROLETARIAT

From a US standpoint, this meeting will be used to build a European consensus on America's "long war". The purpose of the meeting is to rally support for the US led military adventure in the Middle East and Central Asia, which is intimately related, from a strategic standpoint, to the battle for oil and oil pipeline corridors.

The US-NATO military build-up in the Persian Gulf and the Eastern Mediterranean as well as Washington's "New Middle East" will be on the agenda.

Naturally, prior to the assassination of Pierre Gemayel, nobody heard of this shadowy terrorist group, and a Google search returns precisely four results, all connected to the assassination.

Obviously, the Mossad and the Pentagon, the latter through P2OG operations, are as busy in Lebanon as they are in Iraq.

It does not matter there is a complete paucity of evidence indicating Syrian involvement. Moreover, it does not matter that Syrian complicity in the murder of Pierre Gemayel makes no sense. Syria figures prominently on the target list. And besides, if not for the meddlesome James Baker, Pierre might still be alive. Baker and crew want Syria involved in talks regarding the future of Iraq—a bleak future, thanks to the United States—an effort the neocons will stop at any cost.

In record time, the corporate media placed the blame for the assassination of Pierre Gemayel, Lebanese Industry Minister, and grand son of Sheikh Pierre Gemayel, the founder of the Kataeb Party, also known as the Phalange (read: fascist), on Syria.

The Middle East has been conditioned by outside forces into a powder keg that is ready to explode with the right trigger, possibly the launching of Anglo-American and/or Israeli air raids against Iran and Syria. A wider war in the Middle East could result in redrawn borders that are strategically advantageous to Anglo-American interests and Israel.

NATO-garrisoned Afghanistan has been successfully divided, all but in name. Animosity has been inseminated in the Levant, where a Palestinian civil war is being nurtured and divisions in Lebanon agitated. The Eastern Mediterranean has been successfully militarized by NATO. Syria and Iran continue to be demonized by the Western media, with a view to justifying a military agenda. In turn, the Western media has fed, on a daily basis, incorrect and biased notions that the populations of Iraq cannot co-exist and that the conflict is not a war of occupation but a "civil war" characterised by domestic strife between Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds.

The United States has already started a campaign of destabilization through fomenting ethnic unrest. There have already been a series of explosions and bombings targeting mostly civilians, in Khuzestan and Kurdish cities bordering Iraq, and raids on government vehicles and even civilians in Baluchestan, on the Pakistani border, by small groups which have surfaced calling for independence.

Time to talk.

Germany will today adopt the most radical restructuring of its military since 1945, turning the Bundeswehr into an international intervention force.

It will see Germany's military officially abandon its primary postwar task of defending the country's borders in favour of a more robust role for German troops on international missions.
