Scottish clergy lead call for Ay Family to be given Asylum
"We are being put through mental torture by being in here. Why won't the government listen to us? The younger children cannot cope any longer and need to get out. It is a very bad place for them to live surrounded by barbed fences and not getting out to play. They are already suffering from stress and depression. Being here is driving us all crazy. I know people who have got crazy here after a week." Beriwan AyBeriwan 14, Newroz 3, Dilovan 12 and Medya 8 are spending their 353rd day in detention.

Comment on Tommy Sheridan statement
Several weeks ago, Scottish Socialist Party MSP Tommy Sheridan gave a long interview in which, among other things, he said that his goal was a Scotland that would be attractive to big business investment. The following letter (from Labor's Militant Voice, USA) expresses concern over this and where it could be leading. Alan McCombes of the International Socialist Movement and the SSP has replied to this note. His reply follows on this thread.Detention of families at Dungavel Detention centre

No to the M74 Northern Extension in Glasgow
The Scottish Executive plans to build a 6-lane elevated motorway through the southern suburbs of Glasgow. The M74 Northern Extension, would cost about £375-500 million and would be the most expensive transport project in Scotland.JAM74, a coalition of community, environmental and sustainable transport groups, believes this 1960s-style road planning will cause pollution, health problems, community breakdown and won't free up traffic or bring the jobs that are promised and calls for a halt to the road plans and independant research on alternative transport options.
Ulla Roder Faces Legal Hurdles Before Trial Even Begins
The trial of Ulla Roder for damaging a Tornado jet at Leuchars airbase in March, is now scheduled to be heard sometime during the two weeks beginning 28th July, following another hearing on 22nd July to check whether she is prepared for trial, given the barriers she is facing in getting legal representation. Not endless Discussion, Real Disarment Now -Ulla's Story
I looked at the seat in the cockpit in the streamlined white Tornado warplane, which I had just entered. In my mind I had the picture of a young pilot, boy, son, father; the many years of fear for the people of Iraq; for their survival; for a new world war nuclear war; fear of losing the little bit of freedom we people have left in this world, to a state which has officially declared that it wants "Full Spectrum Dominance" on earth as well as in space and which has shown all willingness and cynicism to use whatever means of power to gain this. All this made me lift the red and black bolt-cutters in my hand. Crash! I shouted out aloud in the hangar. There was no-one to hear, but it helped. "We don't want your war, Bush and Blair!" This for all the dead civilians in Iraq and all the children still suffering at poor hospitals, caused by 12 years of sanctions against civilians. Crash! The control panel was out of commission.Gaelic family in name victory/ Buannachd son teaghlaich a-thaobh ainmeachaidh

The heavily guarded convoy of lorries slipped out of a top-secret atomic bomb factory near Reading on Saturday morning and travelling by road is due to arrive at its destination - a nuclear bomb store at Coulport on Loch Long on the Clyde - on Monday afternoon.
