12TH JUNE 2003
FASLANE PEACE CAMP'S BIRTHDAY BLOCKADE OF ROLLS-ROYCE
Eight people were arrested mostly for Public Order offences. The blockade started at 7am, and activists used lock-ons and tubes to hold up traffic entering and leaving the site. At least two large lorries making important deliveries were forced to use an awkward side entrance.
Most of those arrested were held overnight for court the next day. By 4pm all were finally released, having been given strict bail conditions. Their next appearance is due to be at Derby Magistrates Court on 10th July.
Rolls-Royce manufacture and maintain the reactors and cores for all British submarines, including the Vanguard class used to carry Trident nuclear weapons. Rolls Royce also sell equipment to the military of oppressive regimes, as well as dumping their nuclear waste locally in
Derbyshire.
The blockade was part of Faslane Peace Camp's Birthday Action Week. The Camp is celebrating its 21st birthday today, and supporters are welcome to come along. The Camp would like to thank all those who have sent in messages of support (and cake!) There will be a birthday party this Saturday night.
