Talented poet and former nuclear foreman Duncan Ball died on July 17th aged 49. He was a man who tried repeatedly to blow the whistle on unsafe practices in the Magnox plant at Sellafield where he was employed as a foreman. Beginning of the End in Iran

Vartan Salakhanian, 25-06-2009 20:17

Ayatollah Khamenei’s June 19 speech reminded many Iranians of some of the utterances of the shah in the last months of his rule: former president and current chairman of the ‘assembly of experts’ Ali Akbar Rafsanjani cannot be corrupt – he has been the supreme leader’s friend for over 50 years! Everyone in Iran had accepted the results of the elections: it was all the fault of foreign powers and foreign media that some people are now doubting them! Conspiracies are all around us and, just as in colonial times, the British are behind it. Read more >>

Zizek on Iranian protests

Nima Barazandeh, 25-06-2009 01:31

"The following is a guest post from Slavoj Žižek, Apparently the mainstream media has not shown interest in publishing it. The piece is copy-right free and you should feel free to republish this on your own blog. "

one would be expecting a miracle to expect Ahamdinejad apologists, who have been supporting his govornment based on illusioins that a middle class uprising is in place in Iran. Mind you Sepah, the main supporter of Ahmadinejad is a multi- million corporation. most people in the rural areas of Iran, who many in the left believe have voted for Ahmadinejad, are from ethnic minorities who would either, NOT vore, or should they come to the polls is to protests to the pro-regime candidate. Ahmadinejad govornment has the control of the Media, the Police, Riot police, funded by a multi million corporation (Sepaah e Paasdaaraan) and the new regime-dependant corporations and middle class. Open your eyes, only a tyranny who has acknowledged lack of legitimacy, would kill cruch demonstrations in such a scale , to save their position. Is the British left really that blind? Anti-Shell fisherman speaks of attack & sinking of boat

Mika, 11-06-2009 23:19

Attacks by both Shell security and mystery masked men on opponents of the oil company's damaging gas pipeline project have increased in recent weeks. Early Thursday morning, pipeline critic Pat O'Donnell's fishing boat was boarded by four armed masked men, who held the crew captive while sinking the vessel. This follows in the wake of outspoken farmer Willie Corduff being beaten up at night and protestors being thrown off ships by Shell security. Read more | 3 comments >>
