Pauline Campbell arrested at HMP Styal

On January 23rd Lisa Marley aged 32 died in the ‘care’ of HMP Styal in Cheshire. On February 5th veteran campaigner Pauline Campbell brought her unique form of protest to the prison and was promptly arrested for the fifteenth time. Lisa was the sixth woman to die inside the walls of Styal since the death of Pauline’s daughter Sarah in 2003. She was the forty-first woman to die across England and Wales since that time.

RECENT EVENTS

Manchester NO2ID has very busy since our November meeting. As well as our regular street stall, we've flyered the Lord Mayor of Manchester [1] at the Central Library, held an emergency street stall [2] in the light of the HMRC data leak, and reached the Information Commissioner himself [3] at an ICO conference in Manchester.

These are all great actions, and thanks to everyone who's shown up and helped out; we've been getting our points across to an increasingly sympathetic public, and also to people in positions of power, reminding them that we exist and cannot be ignored.

Liverpool Vigil To Support Freedom Of Protest

There is a candlelit demo on Saturday 22nd at Cricket, Mathew Street 1-3pm in support of animal welfare and human rights/civil liberties, in particular to support a fellow activist from Bolton who was recently found guilty of section 5 for photographing police officers for evidence gathering purposes during an incident at Cricket and fined £500. What happened to me this week only further strengthens the need for as many people as possible to attend and stand up against the oppressive behaviour of the police who seem hellbent on stifling legal protest. I really feel that this campaign is becoming as much about defending what little right to protest we are still 'allowed' as much as Cricket selling fur. It would be great if people could bring placards highlighting the human rights aspect of the demo. Read more | 3 comments >>
