Phone Blockade about to start - help stop deportation of Emily Mei Yeh

Noah | 17.01.2014 09:39 | Anti-militarism | Anti-racism | Migration | Wales | World

Emily Yeh worked as an intelligence officer for the Taiwanese government, but became morally uncomfortable with the work she was asked to carry out and fled to the UK. She has been living in Newport, South Wales, where she became a volunteer. Right now, her many friends and supporters are appealing to Malaysia Airways to help keep Emily safe, and not to remove her against her will to an uncertain and dangerous future. If returned she faces an unduly long prison sentence, if not torture or worse.

Emily's asylum case is ongoing - but she was detained by the UK Home Office on 10th December and is facing deportation on flight MH003 from Heathrow tomorrow. She is extremely distressed and physically ill. Emily has suffered greatly from the trauma caused by being torn from her life in Newport, and the prospect of being deported against her will.

Emily still has a chance. Her solicitor is pursuing legal avenues, but needs more time. If she is not deported this week, she may yet win her asylum case.

WE MUST SAVE EMILY FROM DEPORTATION. Emily must be returned to her friends and the life she has built in Newport, where she volunteers with many community organisations and charities. This is where Emily belongs. Right now, her many friends and supporters are appealing to Malaysia Airways to help keep Emily safe, and not to remove her against her will to an uncertain and dangerous future.

YOU CAN HELP. We’re calling for a phone blockade on Malaysia Airlines today, 17th, from 10am. If you can, please spend some time calling to ask them to intervene in Emily’s flight, as they are able to do.
