The place where they were having fun is just a few meters away from an AEK (football) supporters club of Chania and around 70 meters away from the offices of the local committee of KKE (Communist Party) that are located on the same street. Leaving the cafe around 7pm and moving towards the Venetian harbour, the Golden Dawn members attacked two immigrants, according to witnesses, and came to verbal confrontation with a teacher, member of the Board the County Department of ADEDY (Civil Servants Federation).
Arriving at the harbour and while keeping up this kind of behaviour, at the same time that the police were absent, the Golden Dawn members came to a dispute with store patrons and harbour visitors. Following these, people from the anarchist scene gathered together at the Fountain square of the Venetian Harbour and scuffled with them. During the scuffle a Golden Dawn candidate MP was thrown in the sea and two other members of the organization (43 and 23 years old) were injured and taken to Chania’s Hospital to receive the first aid. Then came the police who arrested 4 members of Golden Dawn, the teacher and a waiter.
At the police station the teacher filed a lawsuit against two members of the Golden Dawn accusing them of abuse, while the Golden Dawn members sued the young teacher, as well as a journalist from Chania who had not even been at the location of the incident!
Also, the Golden Dawn members filed a lawsuit against 4 youths accusing them of the beating. Finally, with oral order of the Prosecutor the arrested were released. According to testimonies from neighbors, Golden Dawn members also attacked an officer from the NATO military force and his colleagues rushed to his defense. Meanwhile, after the fight, members of the Communist Party marched downtown to protest the presence of the Golden Dawn.
