“Worldwide Echo in Support of the Zapatistas”

This Friday, October 12th, marks the beginning of the
Second Phase: “From Truth to Action, Stopping the Repression”
Sisters and brothers:
Receive rebellious greetings from this migrant community, from our trench of struggle that is El Barrio, New York.
It is no coincidence that on this Friday, October 12, Day of Indigenous Resistance, we enter into the Second Phase: “From Truth to Action, Stopping the Repression” of our international campaign “Worldwide Echo in Support of the Zapatistas.”
During these past few decades this day has become a point of reflection and rage for many people around the world. It is a day to relive the memory of the dignified resistances of the many indigenous peoples on this land that has many names. Today we find ourselves in difficult, trying times, full of suffering and hope, when the efforts of organized peoples continue to grow while those from above desperately strive to stop us by deploying their police, their packs of “coyotes,” their attack groups, their lies, and all their other worthless strategies to annihilate what we are building together: dignity, justice, and freedom.
Emblematic of these times are the situations of the Zapatista Support Bases – their autonomous indigenous communities – who are suffering extreme repression at the hands of the bad government of Mexico due to their advances towards constructing indigenous autonomy. Their intertwined situations remind us that today we must recall and preserve that which memory affords us. We are in times when to remember means to organize, and when dreaming implies to fight together to see towards the future and witness the past anew. When amidst so much confusion, a clarity emerges that compels us to move from truth to action.
Once again, we invite all those who reject the false “memory” of those from above, to join us by sharing the truth about the Zapatistas and the repression they are facing, and by organizing protests, marches, sit-ins, and any other form of direct action to put an end to this repression, this war that the three faces of bad government wage against our sisters and brothers, the Zapatistas.
As we explained in the Second Call to Action, available in full at this link, http://sanmarcosavilesen.wordpress.com/1129-2/:
In view of the growing global demand for justice and an end to the current and possible attacks, and in order to expand the reach of the on-going activities taking place as part of the current First Phase of our Campaign: “Walking the True Word”, which will continue until October 11, we are writing to you to propose that we join forces once more to carry out the Second Phase: “From Truth to Action, Stopping the Repression.” This new phase will be different from the current first one – which aims to raise awareness in our communities about the dire situation that our Zapatista compas of Comandante Abel, Unión Hidalgo, San Marcos Avilés, and Moisés Gandhi, and the Zapatista political prisoner, Francisco Sántiz López, are facing – in that it will be a period of direct action and protest from October 12 to November 17. As you will understand, these dates were chosen for their great significance in the history of indigenous struggles throughout the world: the Day of Indigenous Resistance and the anniversary of the Birth of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN).
May we use this day to honor the memory, reality, and will of the indigenous peoples in resistance by demanding, in full clarity, freedom for the Zapatista political prisoner Francisco Sántiz López, and justice for the Zapatista communities which are currently under siege by the bad government of Mexico. What is built in shared struggle is never done in vain.
