All these events champion resistance and we hope that they'll leave you energised for international workers' day on May 1st as we'll be asking for input for the day throughout the week. Here in St. Andrews we're proud to get even a small number of radicals to produce a large amount of noise.
The more here the merrier.
Anyways...
Wednesday 25th April is a roundtable on the 'Relevance of the Political Left.' Confirmed speakers include Jeffrey Murer (Marxist academic), Chris Hooley (head of our local University and College Union) and Benjamin Bridgman (local council candidate for the Scottish Green Party). This will be taking place in School 5, Quad, North Street at 7 p.m.
Thursday 26th is a talk led by Dr. Elisabetta Girelli on radical queer theory. This will be complimenting a showing of 'Paris is Burning,' a well known queer film that examines a trans community in NYC. School 6, Quad, North Street at 7 p.m.
Friday 27th sees Franklin Lopez arriving in town to show his 'End:Civ' film based on the work of Derrik Jensen. Currently in the middle of a tour in Britain, Lopez will follow the film with a question and answer session geared towards thoughts on saving the environment. School 6, Quad, North Street at 6.30 p.m.
Saturday 28th will provide local politically charged guitarist Andrew Pearson playing an intimate gig with friends in the evening. Location and support TBA. Earlier in the day Central Scotland Hunt Saboteurs will be providing an information session on saving wildlife.
Sunday 29th sees an all day event from student vegan radicals. Complimenting free vegan food all day will be letter writing to current political prisoners here in Scotland and the rest of the UK. Alongside this will be a continual projection of the Animal Planet documentary series, 'Whale Wars,' that follows the Sea Shepherd Marine Conservation Society in their activities in the Southern Ocean. Beyond this there will be free bicycle maintenance on demand.
and,
Tuesday 1st May is the St. Andrews May Day Extravaganza. Stay tuned.
More events are being added, including a talk by the Edinburgh Chiapas Solidarity group, representatives of local socialist parties joining discussions, direct action workshops and social events.
Join Franklin Lopez and come visit St. Andrews for the week.
