Welcome to Palestine Today, a service of the International Middle East Media Center, www.imemc.org, for Tuesday December 6, 2011.

Palestine Today 12 06 2011 - mp3 3.2M

A settler who repeatedly rammed a Palestinian with his car is given three months “public service”, and over two thousand Bedouins are being forced to relocate, these stories and more coming up; so stay tuned.

Israeli soldiers invaded, on Tuesday at dawn, an area east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Local sources stated that several armored vehicles invaded the area and opened fire in several directions leading to damages in a number of homes; no injuries were reported.

The incident is part of repeated attacks targeting fishermen in Palestinian territorial waters.

In several cases, the Navy has opened fire at fishing boats docked at the Gaza Shore, while in most cases soldiers fired at and even boarded fishing boats.

There are around 3500 Palestinian fishermen officially registered in the Gaza Strip; fishing is the only source of income for them and their families.

In 2006, Israel reduced the area where Palestinians fishermen are allow to fish to only three nautical miles.

Israeli troops invaded, on Tuesday at dawn, Kufr Qaddoum village, near the northern West Bank city of Qalqilia, broke into several homes, and arrested three residents.

Those taken have been confirmed as: Anas Barham, Rif’at Barham and Abdul-Hafeeth Anwar, all aged 20, along with 21 year old Abdullah Rajab.

Israel stepped-up its arrests against the village after its residents started weekly protests demanding the army reopen the main road that leads to the village.

Israeli officials have announced a plan to displace twenty Bedouin Arab communities from their homes in the West Bank between Jerusalem and Jericho, and move the residents to a site along the Jerusalem municipal garbage dump.

The forced displacement of the 2,300 residents is scheduled to begin next month. It is part of a large plan by the Israeli government to forcibly transfer over 27,000 Bedouins from the West Bank into designated reserves, which will make their traditional profession of shepherding herds of animals much more difficult.

Although the Bedouin Arabs are traditionally nomadic, under the last sixty years of Israeli rule, they have been forced out of their herding areas and prevented from constructing homes. Israeli authorities have destroyed the homes of Bedouins living in ‘unrecognized villages’ dozens of times to try to force them to relocate.

The Israeli District Court in Jerusalem sentenced a settler who rammed a wounded Palestinian with his vehicle, and drove his car over him back and forth, to three months “Public Service”.

Hebron resident, Waseem Maswada, went to the entrance of Keryat Arba’ settlement in Hebron, and stabbed two settlers a man and a woman.

Israeli soldiers then shot and injured him, and he fell to the ground.

Shortly after the shooting, the settler “David Mizrahi” attacked a wounded settler, thinking that he was the Palestinian stabber, and when he realized his mistake, he drove his car over the wounded Palestinian back and forth despite the presence of Israeli soldiers on the scene.

That’s all for today from the IMEMC News, this was the Tuesday December 6 daily roundup of news from the Occupied Palestinian Territories. We hope you will join us again tomorrow. This was brought to you by Hasam Qassis, and me, William Gibson.
