We are currently occupying an area near Bournemouth square outside the town hall in solidarity with the global occupy movement, started by Occupy Wall Street.
This is a new site is in its 4th day of occupation, and at the moment things are only being set up. A general assembly is currently being held @ Occupy Bournemouth every day at 6pm. This is the decision-making body which works towards consensus for the occupation. Everyone is welcome, so come down to the town hall introduce yourself and get involved. You can learn about the process here.
We are new and so we have not had the chance to consensually vote on our official international, national and local ideas, however the main areas being disgusted and debated are:
The cause and reasons for the occupation movement
The banking industry and their practises
National policies like the cuts and what effect this is having in a local area
People all around the world – millions of people, in over 1,000 cities – are coming together to express their ideas, to share their stories, and to talk about ways the world could be different.
If you are interested, Bournemouth town hall is now a space where anyone can come down, find out more, and get involved. We’re friendly and do not bite!:-)
The Occupation in Bournemouth has complied with local council requests to not disrupt any planned events at the town hall. It should be noted that occupiers are working closely with the local community in finding ways we can give back to our community and with the council to avoid causing any disruption to planned events in the vicinity of the camp.
