Does anti-cuts make radical sense?

Kritikal | 29.11.2010 23:21 | Analysis | Public sector cuts | Social Struggles | World

Radicals critiqued the old system as fucked and unjust, now with "the cuts" situation it seems there's a back-track.

Before "the cuts" radicals/anarchists critiqued the system as unjust and unsustainable -- inequality grows, resources deminish (peak oil and peak everything really), and consequently climate change worsens as the social situation gets uglier.

Now "the cuts" situation seems to bring the crowds forward, with support from the radical communities, shouting the cuts aren't necessary, quoting statistics about deficeit and debt being as bad or worse in the past. That things can continue without the cuts -- where is the critique of the system now? Forgotten about? Hidden away to be wiped out as a last surprise?

Austerity is that which is imposed by the established so as to reconfigure economies, as necessary with the change of times, BUT in their interests. For the powers-that-be it could well be austerity or crash because they know how close we are to the edge of financial meltdown (ATM closure, then potential problems buying or getting food as things get worse etc) yet they are unwilling to give up their priviledge.

What they deny - silence - is the alternative, but it isn't the alternative that says things can go back to as they were. The global village is destroying the eco-systems of the world and destroying the very means of its (our) survival. We all need to POWER DOWN, decentralise and redistribute toward the commons. Fighting with the government (whether local or not) over financial figures and cut necessities maintains the binary of cut-or-not cut within THIS SYSTEM -- with no arguement over the alternative.

Even if services are saved through a hard campaigned slog, it doesn't mean austerity won't come back again, BEACAUSE GLOBAL CIVILIZATION IS FALTERING!

Fight the cuts by fighting the power that silences the living, breathing alternative.
