Slow down in EDL scum protests.
More and more people are eginning to realise that:

a) the EDL are racists/nazis/facists = the less rightwing among them are leaving in droves now that that their "we're only opposed to Muslim extremism" bullshit is being proven wrong

b) anti-facist pressure from all communities/political persuasions opposed to these shitbags is beginning to tell.

c) Their leadership are either self serving rich bastards using the EDL for their own ends (Alan Lake) BNP/other nazi scum lieing about their non-involvement or grasses (as in the notorious Sheffield police station incident.)

Are people who protest against Scientology also racist? Why do you automatically label anyone who protests against Islamic extremists as racist? Yet what is the difference between Scientology and extremist Islamic? Both are dangerous cults.

Just because most extremist muslims are none white it does not mean that those who protest against them are racist!

Let's be honest, all religions are dangerous cults and have done more harm than good to this world. However Scientology is not only a dangerous cult, but a multi-million dollar business which exploits many people. Project Chanology was notable because it did not target members of the church of Scientology, but saw them as victims.

The singling out of Islam is suspicious, and conflating the vast majority of Muslims with radical Islamism is plain old fashioned racism.

The main problem with those who protest against Islam (ie the EDl et al) is that they are segregating one religious group and demonising them using inaccurate and appalling propaganda as well as smearing the meany innocent Muslims with the activities of the few idiots present in all communities. This is called scapegoating. We know where that led in the 30's and 40's.

Other problems include the fact that the EDL, contrary to its propaganda is linked to the BNP, NF, and other racist facists or neo-nazi groups. No not all members of the EDL are that bad, but the links are there. There is also a hell of a lot of casual and generic racism from the EDL toward non extremist Muslims, Asian communities regardless of religious persuasion and non-white communities.

The activities of the EDL are dividing formerly peaceful communities. With a Tory Govt. in charge punishing the poor for the banker's fuck ups and the economic problems, cutting benefits, services etc, working class communities and workforces are facing a fucking tough time. We need to be united in the face of this if we are to achieve any significant victories, the actions of all extremists undermines this, dividing communities and making the Tory scum and capitalist bosses' life easier. Plus the actions of the EDL in demonising Muslims instead of negating the problem of extremism actually pushes Muslims into the arms of the extremists making terrorist attacks etc. all the more likely. What is needed is community cohesion and discussion. The violent, bigotted, beer belllied beligerance of the EDL will only make the problem worse.

My God there are some desperate people trolling here. Of course Scientology and extreme Islam are both dangerous cults, but Anti-Fascists do not condemn "everybody" who opposes Muslim fundamentalism as "racist", we only condemn the REAL RACISTS for being racist. As for the EDL, people who genuinely oppose racism don't join marches where they know they'll be protesting alongside Combat 18 and BNP activists in mufti. As a case in point, left / liberal feminist groups like Southall Black Sisters and Women Against Fundamentalism have been opposing Muslim extremism for decades, years before the EDL tried to jump on the bandwagon, as have secular left / humanist political groups like the Bangladesh Awami League and moderate Muslim movements like Sufism and Barelvism - no Anti-Fascists call them racist. So to the guy who made the comment above stop flattering yourself with bullshit names like "Free Thinker" and apply knowledge and insight to your thinking as well please

As for Trevor Kelway's comments about pedos, it's the pot calling the kettle black so far as the EDL "defending" Christian culture's concerned - in the Bible God required Abraham to prove he was willing to murder his own son as a test of faith. Jerry Lee Lewis married his own cousin when she was 13, and is this hypocritical jerk Kelway even remotely bothered about the thousands of disgusting abuse cases perpetrated by both Catholic and (although to a lesser extent) by Protestant clergy?
