On April 20th 2010, Bita was scheduled to be removed to Iran by the UK Border Agency but the flight failed to leave the UK. She has now been re-scheduled to be removed on May 5th on flight BD931 destination Imam Khomeini Airport, Tehran the day before the British people go to the polls to elect a new Government.
She remains in detention at Yarls Wood Detention Centre and, her partner reports, is becoming very ill.
Bita has campaigned for the human rights of those imprisoned and executed in Iran during the recent appalling violence at the Iranian enclave of Camp Ashraf in Northern Iraq and during the violence seen in Iran during the aftermath of the Iranian election protests, which so far has ended in scores of Iranians imprisoned and executed for crimes of taking part in demonstrations to the do it all proscription of Mohareb (Emnity against God).
After two weeks of campaigning, Bitas supporters have now generated colossal support from well-wishers all over the world and during the last week, that support has been joined by the The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

When my friend Shreen Ayob alerted me to this, I wrote a piece on my own site and naturally began researching. I've had precious little trust in mainstream media for many years now, but given the gravitas of the story I began searching the online nationals.
Now, regular readers of any of the truly independent non-mainstream press will have immediately spotted my mistake. The results were uniformly blunt: "Your Search Results for Bita Ghaedi Did not match any documents." It's election time who wants to be bothered by some foreigner and her trivial domestic affairs?
Indymedia and a handful of others has been my only source. So perhaps this comment adds except to show my gratitude. And to remind myself of the need to create a new link section in regard to the news sources.
So thanks. And best wishes to Bita.
