Teenage Afghan, sets fire to him-self outside UKBA reporting centre
On the afternoon of Friday 18th December, just after 3:00pm a 19 year old Afghan left UKBA Waterside Reporting Centre, Waterside Court in Leeds and set himself on fire. Emergency services were called and the Afghan teenager was rushed to the serious burns unit at Penderfields Hospital, Wakefield. He is still there now and still in a critical condition. He was believed to have been living in Bradford before the incident.
At the moment his name is not known, UKBA/police are refusing to give any information other than an incident happened.
If anyone living in/out of the Bradford area knows the name of the teenager, please get back to NCADC.

Update: Joint UK/France Charter flight to Afghanistan 15/12/09
One of the NGO's who represented one of the Afghans, who were taken to the Airport on the 15th December and returned to detention; asked UKBA for information on what happened.
The reply from UKBA:
"You ask why Mr ******** was not deported on 15 December 2009. Removals Support and Coordination Unit (RESCU) have advised me that his deportation was deferred due to the fact that the flight of 15 December 2009 was over-subscribed. Mr ********'s removal directions are in the process of being re-set and he will be advised of the details in due course."

Foreign prisoners given £500 to leave Britain after sentence
Removing overseas offenders by force costs an average of £11,000
Foreign prisoners are being deported with a cash card pre-loaded with almost £500 as part of a government scheme to persuade them to leave. The card is part of a package worth up to £5,000 that is available to offenders who go voluntarily when they have finished their sentence.
Home Office officials introduced the card in secret two months ago to try to persuade more foreign prisoners to leave. Posters advertising the "bribe" were placed in jails and immigration removal centres in England and Wales but Parliament was not formally informed of the change.
