Florence and Precious home for Christmas!
After four weeks in immigration prisons, and saved from deportation by a strong campaign and last minute legal intervention, Florence and Precious Mhango are back home in Glasgow. Anne McLaughlin, Member of Scottish Parliament  and one of the campaign organisers, sent a message to supporters on the Facebook page [  http://bit.ly/4tJa6M ] : "They're out. They're coming home. They'll be back by morning and they are both very, very happy. It's not over yet but at least Precious is not locked up and she's coming back to Glasgow". Florence had sent a text, saying: "They've let me go, I'm coming back to Glasgow, I am so happy".

Good campaigning + good legal rep = freedom.

Yves is back in detention centre, relieved and exhausted.

Thanks for all the support and faxes

UK/France joint 'Charter flight' to Afghanistan
17 of the UK refused Afghan refused asylum seekers, who UKBA had taken to the airport for removal are back in detention. Some of them arrived at the airport at 12:00hrs on Tuesday and were kept in the coaches till 04:00hrs on Wednesday. No explanation of why they were not removed has been given.
One of the deportees who had been in Brook House IRC before the removal and now in Campsfield IRC, said 'Campsfield is a holiday camp, compared to Brook House, we were locked up 23 hours a day and weren't allowed to take showers'.

Thanks to all who faxed/Emailed BMI, response from BMI has been guarded and hostile, there main defence seems to be, 'other airlines are doing it, why not us' !

Ireland: Group of 46 asylum seekers deported to Nigeria
A total of 46 Nigerians were deported [Wednesday] after they had failed in their bid to seek asylum status here.

The group were joined on the flight by six Nigerians deported from Austria.

The overall price of the flight was €258,100 (£231,438.96 ) and it was organised by Frontex, an EU agency based in Warsaw and set up to co-ordinate operations between member states in the field of border security. The Martinair flight, which also included a doctor and nurse, was chartered through a UK company and contracted to the immigration service here following an EU-wide tender.
