March for jobs in London

Saun | 29.11.2009 17:48 | Workers' Movements | World

On Saturday 28 November, more than a thousand youth march for jobs in London

More than 1,000 unemployed young people have marched through central London demanding jobs as the rate of youth unemployment stands at a record high.

The For Bolshevism-AUCPB gropu also marched and distributed copies of the AUCPB journal "For Bolshevism inside the communist and workers movement" along with PCS and RMT unions.

Students, union activists and campaigners condemned the government for "failing our futures".

Youth unemployment of 16 to 24-year-olds has risen to 943,000.

Earlier this month the UK youth unemployment rate rose to 19.8%.

Unemployment in the UK totalled 2.46 million in the three months to September, although the 30,000 increase was the smallest since May 2008.
One protestser said, "Where I'm from graduates feel lucky to flip burgers"

Nevertheless youth unemployment - measuring the number of 16 to 24-year-olds out of work - rose by 15,000 to 943,000.

Protesters travelled from as far afield as France and northern Scotland to join the march past the Houses of Parliament.

The 26-year-old added: "The government has done absolutely nothing to help so this generation must take things into our own hands."

This march highlights the plight of the million young people who are now unemployed and the many more who are facing joblessness as a result of this recession," he said.

"Young people are being forced to pay for the economic crisis whilst bankers award themselves another £5bn in bonuses this month."

Following the march, demonstrators gathered in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park.

Honesty

It's a bit dishonest of the AUCPB (whoever they are!) to ignore any mention of the Youth Fight for Jobs (YFJ) campaign which called the demonstration and put a lot of hard work in to build the turnout.

Nevertheless, it was a really great day, which attracted some good media coverage, and saw a really energetic and diverse group of young people marching! Particularly good was the turnout from a Cypriot and a Turkish youth group called Day-Mer Youth.

Mud slingers, splitter and reformists - state of the fake left in Britain

02.12.2009 09:39

Yea Nick, but not everybody knows what groups are at these demos and personally, I had never heard of the For Bolshevism-AUCPB group till I saw them at the march, and so what? - let them all march, I say. What’s with all the toadyism on part of the SP? And I only found out after that it was actually the Socialist Party that was behind the organizing of that march for recruitments into its ranks. People might think that a bit dishonest in way – using a demo just to recruit into its party. At least the Bolsheviks don’t hide their intent but come out openly what they stand for. So you don’t like Stalin…so what?….millions of Russian still do. On my experience at work, it appears the SP are awful fake left reformists. In the PCS they caved completely over pay, and hope to a compromise deal with the government over redundancy payments. At least the FB- AUCPB group openly stands for socialist revolution and pulls to pieces any illusions about parliamentary bourgeois democracy. Too bad for those who don’t like them.
