Solidarity with the Immigrants, the situation in Greece

Delta squat, Thessaloniki, Greece | 13.11.2009 14:20 | Migration | World

The forced migration from the "developing" world to that of the "civilized" West is something indisputable. The anti-terrorist witch hunt by the dominants and the pounce on natural wealth in every corner of the planet, led to the uprooting of thousands of people, either by military or economic terms. One of the destinations for this migration is also Greece, which through international state agreements, is directly responsible for the economic exploitation and military conditions that led these people to imigration, trying to to escape poverty, in response to this blackmailing dilemma of death or flee.

IN THE WORLD OF BOSSES WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS

The forced migration from the "developing" world to that of the "civilized" West is something indisputable. The anti-terrorist witch hunt by the dominants and the pounce on natural wealth in every corner of the planet, led to the uprooting of thousands of people, either by military or economic terms. One of the destinations for this migration is also Greece, which through international state agreements, is directly responsible for the economic exploitation and military conditions that led these people to imigration, trying to to escape poverty, in response to this blackmailing dilemma of death or flee. This is how their odyssey begins. They pack their hopes for a better future in slave ships, crammed to suffocation in trucks, or through endless walking in order to reach the capitalist "paradise" of the West.

The anti-immigrant policy that promotes Fortress-Europe's economic interests has declared the borders inpenetrable by any "illegal invasion". Thus under the Schengen Treaty and EU's general program of 'Solidarity and Management of Migration Flow', new organizations has been created for the management of external borders such as FRONTEX (the European cross-border police who cooperates tightly with Europol) and requires the creation of military and increased suppression with the inevitable result of thousands murders of those who are trying to escape from poverty.

As a result of the intensification of repression only in 2008 the Greek government expelled 88,000 immigrants. Since the beginning of 2009, 5 state murders were committed, while in the last 10 years 50 immigrants were murdered. Over the last decade, in Fortress Europe there are approximately 12,000 dead and 400,000 immigrants were victims of torture. In 2008 alone, 1,500 migrants have lost their lives in boats that sank at sea, and nobody knows the exact number of shipwrecks.

The Greek State through the mainstream media, is distorting the reality, and by cultivating fear is succeeding a broad social consensus, which in turn arms the fascists who declare a "cleansing" of the country from the "garbage" immigrants.

For the daily humiliation of migrants, the beatings, the torture and murders at the borders, at detention centers and prisons and the extremely bad conditions in concentration camps, not only there are no official investigations, not only the uniformed beasts are not punished, but almost always rewarded. Last appalling example the case of Mohammed Atif Kamran who was beaten, tortured with electric shock and eventually died from his injuries a few days later.

The brutality of the police (not only against immigrants but against all the oppressed) is merely the expression of the legitimate state violence used by the ruling elite to achieve its objectives over the remaining part of the society: submission-exploitation, and for those who resist or simply are not useful: detention-murder.

Let us not delude ourselves. These conditions can not be changed by any new law, any new government, any parliament.

On the other hand, the bosses who impose medieval working conditions, treat the workers as objects of implementing their disgusting plans, with the lowest possible cost. So, by this butchers way, they separate the workers (as if they are animals for slaugter) in local and imported. The immigrants as the most vulnerable part of the society, a snack on the bosses' voracious appetites for profit. Used in the most precarious and dangerous areas of labor exploitation, in conditions of slavery.

From our view, in terms of locality, we believe that in a world of savage exploitation and capitalist brutality, we are all the same as any foreigner who experiences the oppression at first hand. We are strangers everywhere in the world of authorities that plunder the natural wealth destroying everything, we are foreigners to the world of racist gazes that scream for national clearness because our homeland is the whole planet, we are strangers to the world of indifference about everything that is happening around us because we know that this indifference maintains the bonds tight upon us.

We don’t accept the idea that a human being can be illegal and we will stand in solidarity with their struggle, when it stems from the oppression that they suffer by the ruling class. Many immigrants have begun to link up and do collective hunger strikes (since October, 19 refugees from Iran are doing a hunger strike demanding political asylum), big demostrations, clashes and riots in urban centers, prisons and concentration camps across the country. Such events and the involvement of migrants in last Decembers riots justify our solidarity.

Also, we do not believe that all immigrants are outcasts from the capitalist profit making. Drug dealers are spreading death, pimps rape women, while the Ministry for the Protection of the Citizen announces recruitment of immigrants to police forces. The position taken by them in the current social conditions are distinct. No matter their national identity, people belonging to the authoritarian rabble, will always meet us opposing them.

As far as the borders bleed the maps, as far as the masters bankrupt our lives, as far as the states dominate upon our societies, the conflict with the planning of the dominants is the only road and the riots are it's skylights.
